I think the problem is media and hyperscalers have flattened the whole data science field into the SEO and speculator friendly term 'AI', a decade ago there would be a better description of the interesting models being employed than,

AI models

Or

AI-generated statistical models

While I'm not sure if the impact on the environment would be much different, though it might be far less, I fairly sure this article is not refering to the use of Claude or ChatGPT when refering to 'AI'. I assume this is a proprietary model of the kind that is actually useful because it is built for a specific, and therefore limited, purpose. Those limitations may mean its impact on the environment is far less, as its compute needs are less and may reduce after development.

I'm yet to see anything fascist about him. Please inform me if you have. Conservative as fuck, for sure, but conservatism doesn't equal fascist. He also seems to be a religious zealot, or at least adjacent to such. Not everyone who thinks of life as a 'heirarchy of the deserving' takes that idea as far as fascists.

He has demonstrated on numerous occassions lines he doesn't cross, there is no line a fascist will not cross in their extremist pursuit of dominance and power.

Ah yes, the humvee. I like that line from the humvee commander in the movie Black Hawk Down. "These things are bullet magnets!"

I suppose a possible answer if they're determined to have heavier armour is compartmentalised and autonomous setups. Having the operator in a separate location to the cannon could reduce the armouring requirements of both and splitting them up could make delivery separately on those c130's possible. Of course the draw back is a platform far more susceptible to electronic warfare.

, but every new generation of people looking at war inevitably say "ah, this next war we won't need armor we need to make everything as lightly armored as possible!" and then that strategy fails spectacularly until people create more heavily armored version and the cycle repeats...

Seems like you have an interesting historical annecdote your drawing on where this has happened. Is it a story worth sharing?

I saw a post breaking down how that Saxony election in a 'first past the post' electoral system would have delivered all but like three seats to AFD on only ~42% of the vote.

Ueybmore evidence that its the preferential voting system for the representative win!

Too bad places like Britain and most of the US won't pull their fingers out on this system flaw.

Music really can bring the worst of enemies together.

So, I've recently been interested in Aziz Abu Sarah, and Maoz Inon, they are the authors behind The Future is Peace. One is Palestinian and the other is Israeli. They have a really positive message where they say peace could be just two weeks away. They deliver it better than I ever could.

Rest is Politics - Leading (spotify) interviewed them a couple weeks ago. It was a really hopeful and inspiring interview, definitely a recommend from me.

I was ready to hate on this idea when I read the headline, but I don't know, a use like this seems fine.

I feel like the answer isn't one or the other. Its: You can roll out this AI tool, but that doesnt change the fact that more cadet journalists are required.

“Physical attractiveness has been shown by extensive research to have a clear positive impact on electoral success,” Rodrigo Praino, professor of politics and public policy at Flinders University, told Deepcut.

“This is particularly true in the case of low information electoral contests, that is, when voters typically do not have very large amounts of information on the candidates, their policies and their records.”

I mentioned this to my partner, highlighting it as one of the less covered reasons I think the Secret Harbour election was lost so convincingly. The ON candidate doesn't have the worst mug out there, added to this, I saw some very unfortunate photos of Georgia Tree.

In a possibly unfortunate turn of events for Herdegen, now he's in office, it's what's on the inside that counts.

The comment with the URL is deleted, so I can't go back and remind myself. If I remember correctly they did a bunch of wreaths and craft things, possibly for sale... Can't really remember though. Its a joyful site.
