I have one that a previous boss bought for me. I only use it when talking to religious fanatics who got their doctorate in religious studies to tell them I'm also a doctor and they can fuck off. Feels like stolen valor otherwise.

Yeah, it's a big talking point, but it doesn't make it any less weird. It's not his job or his responsibility, and the biggest problem is like you said - He's SEEN as wielding equivalent power. He's doing a good job as mayor because he's NOT trying to appeal to the rest of the state and is focusing on directly improving the lives of the people in NYC, as it should be.

Otherwise, why stop the polling at the state level? Why not poll all of New England? Why not poll Canada? They're just as close by and have the exact same level of influence over and from him.

Except he didn't say this. He said two years ago.

"And we have people laughing at America as they were just two years ago. We're not going to let that happen. We're not going to let people laugh at us anymore. We're the smart country now, not the dumb country. We were a dumb, stupid country led by a very, very stupid person who wasn't leading."

I love going to these 'public worship services' with this verse on a protest sign. When people ask me which verse it is, I tell them that it's better to look it up themselves because I don't want to distort Jesus' message, and they should really hear it directly from him.

Haha, I made you look up how your god insulted you.

Because we're now talking about it, and they're getting more clicks/interactions because of it. AI does the work in a fraction of the time, with the added benefit of being rage-bait.

I remember 15 years ago when I needed to reformat my Windows PC and called Microsoft to ask how to import my Office account onto my clean install. They informed me that I already used my 'backup' copy when I reformatted last, and I would need to buy a new copy of Office in order to get it running on the same machine again.

OR, they had this 'Special Deal' for Office 365 where I could spend 1/2 as much money that day and re-download it as many times as I need! I confirmed with them that I lost my access for software I've had for years and that even with their 'best deal', I can only rent it back from them and I'd be right back in the same boat in two years. I asked how that was any better and the guy 'helping me' didn't know what to say.

Unsurprisingly, I'm posting from a Linux machine and use LibreOffice now.

My point is that knowing that your training is incomplete and needs to be supplemented with compassion, patience and empathy could also be a part of training. If they have training that says "look for this card", it could just as easily be retooled to say "look for these symptoms".

They literally are. If they weren't, this could have been done entirely with deescalation training.

I hate how trying to explain this to neurotypicals makes me seem 'pessimistic' or 'contrarian'.

I'll get asked "Don't you feel better now that this task is done?" and my honest answer is "No." As frustrating as that might be to hear, imagine how frustrating that is to experience.

Least likely to get Valve sued lose Valve money in a lawsuit*

Frivolous lawsuits happen all the time. You're never going to avoid all of them, and shouldn't be trying to. The lawyer's job is to make sure that all their ducks are in a row for WHEN they get sued so that the judge can review all the information and throw the lawsuit out.
