Me thinks they couldve just left a strip in the middle all around and achieve the same thing without the balance problem.

Or even just cut off some of the far side that would be entirely hidden from view to get that half and half photo. Or just leave the sheep with a full body mohawk. Then, after the main photo is taken, style, dye, and spike it, take more photos, then take a video of the reaction when the now punk sheep rejoins its herd. Then do the whole herd and take a video of various sheep dogs reaction to being introduced to that herd. Then do a sheep dog and shepherd and invite school classes to come for a field trip and film their reactions to the sheep (introduced as "perfectly normal farm sheep"). Then get bored with it and go do something else. Maybe remember to post the photos and videos a few months later.

Now I know what to do if I ever have unrestricted access to sheep

I could maybe use a big scary dog that keeps me from meandering around so much.

Yes, but the photographer is an asshole, you see.

Woolward is both a direction and a fun name for a butler sheep.

Carry on my woolward son

Is there an actual article to go with this text laden screenshot?

calliope@retrolemmy.com · 21 pts · 3d (3 replies)

Here’s one from the photographer’s own website!

I was curious too because the guy’s name is literally Wolinski. Seemed a little on-the-nose.

Excellent, thanks for the research and the link!

Gotta love the other extreme.

Went from text laden screenshot to text only photography page that as a bonus is completely unreadable due to the poor colour contrast between background and text, not to mention completely ignoring my phone being in dark mode.

This is all kinds of levels of odd.

It does work great in a “reader” mode, though!

His original words are worth reading I think.

As a result the first sheep never achieved stardom. Nor did the second, the 19th or the 27th. We tried shearing them front to back as well as side-to-side. The well planned, half day photo shoot was trying the patience of not only the generous grazier but of the 12 motorcycle shepherds who locked arms to create a human fence around each sheep while I attempted to make a picture.

The camera shutter clattered and 72,000 watt-seconds of flash bathed number 30 in light with a happy popping sound. The picture ran as the lead shot in my National Geographic article about wool. Number 30 went on to hire an agent and is looking for new bookings.

I liked that cute little last line.

Changing to a third browser and engaging reader mode, I have now read the article which as you point out is absolutely worth reading and in many ways it too is as whimsical as the photo.

What a wild ride.

I would have loved to be in that room.

"Ok, sheep number 18 is our guy."

"Ok, sheep number 19 is our guy."

If you squint, it vaguely looks like a Magic card 🤔

They seem like they're kind of an asshole.

"Asshole photographer makes life difficult for sheep for the sake of a photo".

LostCarcosan@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 2d

You think they just left 30 sheep to stumble around half shaved for the rest of their little, sheepy lives?

You seem to have roughly the intelligence of an animal that falls over when it's half shaved
