I see it as on par with buying art, or a relic. Sure that 3rd century goblet can be drank out of, but that's not why someone buys it. The argument I hear in my head is that "it's a part of history." While true, I don't think it's worth that to have in a private collection, but I could see its value in being displayed by a public institution. (I'm not defending the price, just the view that it does have value.)
As far as grocery stores go, I'm pretty fortunate. I live in an area (St. Louis) where we've got good unions for the grocery stores. Schnucks and Dierbergs are the dominant grocery stores here - both local and great union representation.
Assuming that humanity is gone, but infrastructure still exists, I'd take advantage of the Internet before it goes down. Make a long list of grocery stores, gas stations, and zoos. Steal a large vehicle, probably a refrigerated semi, and journey across the country releasing captive animals from zoos. That and/or bomb the base of many large buildings, just to watch them fall.
Where I work, there are thousands of dollars worth of product that is designated to be disposed of every week. I donate everything that I can to non-profits, mostly Habitat for Humanity because they will come pick it up. Some stuff we're not allowed to donate and we put it outside with our unsecured recycling - I let people know to go take it.
That's the price companies chose to pay instead of workers. I like self-checkout, mostly because I don't have to talk to someone doing something that I'm capable of, but I know many people appreciate having a person doing it for them. Furthermore, there should be an employee immediately available when using self-checkout, but that's just my two cents.
That's what I thought the joke was when I saw this comic yesterday - I thought the duck was hanging its tongue out, mocking the dog for being inbred. It wasn't until I saw it again today that I recognized the spelling difference.
Because who else is going to shoot those tornadoes?

Take turns? Get more bikes.
In all fairness, you had your question answered very clearly, twice.
The chance to kiss a hot Spanish guy, I guess. There's always next time.
I've got two theories
Good call, I completely missed that. Even after zooming in. 🤦
I like the little ledge for the record being currently played, but what's the wire going to it?

Not pretentious

I like John Ashcroft for the sole reason that the state of Missouri voted for a dead guy over him for governor.
