Trump has a cult of personality that took years to build, and isn't simply transferred to someone else. MAGA doesn't survive if he's gone. Will there still be fascists, racists, and so on? Yes, but they won't be unified anymore, and they won't be grouped together with the rest of the right anymore either. This will be good for the left in the short term because the right will be less powerful, but also bad for the left because it won't be as easy to attack the right.

Yeah but it's the only currency we have to reward level of learning, and the only metric by which level of learning can be estimated. Also, I've always thought that college was also about preparing kids for the real world, for adult life and living independently. It doesn't help anyone grow up by getting rid of mechanisms that give you feedback on your performance and level of effort. But I actually agree with you that the point is more about learning, I just don't think you will get the result you hope for by getting rid of the only metric for learning success that we have. I suppose if you truly believe in a communist ideal, then grades and all other forms of currency or metrics of performance have to go, but they would have to be replaced by internal motivation, which would mean the extinction of tough, practical degrees in favor of millions of psychology degrees. I would have done psychology instead of engineering if the job outlook were irrelevant.

What, you annoyed because I interrupted the circle jerk with a different opinion? Do you actually think it would be more fun or intellectually stimulating if I dropped a standard response like the rest of these bots? Most threads are so boring, the same opinions repeated throughout the thread but trying to one up each other in how hard they agree, craving the validation they get from a few up clicks. What a miserable and boring existence. Sounds like this conversation has run it's course though, so i will leave you to it.

That's because it's lemmy, almost entirely progressives. The populists on the conservative side making bad policy are slashing funding with little regard for long term impact that's just as harmful as the populist leftist approaches, you just don't see me having those conversations here because nobody on lemmy is advocating for it. I think policy should encourage competition and that's about it. At least in regards to economic issues. The market can sort these things out if it is allowed to work, as long as there is healthy competition.

Monetary policy is only one possible factor for driving inflation. High demand and cost of goods and services are other major factors, which Mamdani definitely has influence over. Also anyone can balance a budget for the short term. That's my whole point, that these short term policies are popular, but devastating in the long term if you don't actually know what you are doing.
