I was quite popular in my youth. Knew loads of people, was rarely on bad terms with anyone, and Saturday nights out on the piss were brilliant - I could mingle between different friendship circles and have a great time.
Things change though, and my life took me in a different direction. I moved six hundred miles away to a different country, but still stayed in touch with folk, even if that contact naturally dwindles away. I used to visit my hometown every few months, walk round, and invariably bump into someone I knew for a gas and chat bollocks like it was 2000 again.
A big big gut punch came about ten years ago when I went back, walked round, went into a few shops, got a coffee, and went back to the car. In that time I had seen nobody I knew. Nobody I recognised. No trace of the social life I had worked hard to build in my youth.
That's when I knew that it wasn't "home" anymore.
I'm not mad about it. I look back and remember the amazing times I had, but now I look forward to the amazing future in front of me a family and a lifestyle somewhere else.
It's a big boot in the feels, but life goes on. Nothing lasts forever. And that's cool.

My education provider uses that TurnItIn bollocks - but even if a script is flagged as high risk for generative AI or plaigarism, it just gets marked for review rather than graded.
A human in the loop is absolutely essential for these tasks. It would appear that tools like TurnItIn will only really catch the most egregious of Ctrl-C Ctrl-V'ers, but any establishment that grades using AI only deserves all the shit they get.
My provider already uses overworked and underpaid lecturers to provide substandard feedback on my assessments as it is, I'd hate for the boat to sink any further.

Mission: Shark (or Misja on the European continent): arguably one of the best games on the systems. Silky smooth animation, great gameplay loop, fantastic music. Janusz Pelc at his best.
Rescue on Fractalus: fantastic foray into faux-3D. You'll never forget the first time you picked up your first "pilot"...
H.E.R.O: finely balanced, a great time killer.
Encounter: far beyond it's years, the precursor to open world games
Fred: another J Pelc masterpiece. Great platformer.
Star Raiders II: beautiful shooter. The space shoot em' ups of today can trace their combat gameplay directly back here.
Lode Runner: one of the best and smoothest implementations of this game, along with...
Chuckie Egg: the original and best.
Zybex: a competent shooter with some of the best chiptunes you'll ever hear.
Blinky's Scary School: bastard hard, but full of British humour.
Fort Apocalypse: fantastic shooter, with stunning graphics and a blue doppelganger helicopter that will give you nightmares.
Rally Speedway: takes the top down racer formula, tightens the controls, makes it prettier, and gives you a level editor too. Brilliant.
River Rescue: River Raid but better, and if you disagree then you're entitled to your wrong opinion.
Genuine question for those with experience of VMs and virtualisation...
Is this not really inefficient? Like, running a VM on a platform like Windows or Linux introduces some mega overheads... surely having another level of abstraction would make things real slow, even on decent hardware?
I'm just someone with a surface level knowledge so happy to be educated.
If you ever get chance to visit Aberdeen - the Aberdeen University Zoological dept building (painted as the Elorg building in the film) is fucking awesome and the two-floor exhibits they have of natural history is genuinely brilliant.
I used to do some operator work for a major UK telecoms firm.
Because it was free, you had all sorts of people phoning it. A good chunk of them were just old folk who were lonely and just wanted someone to speak to.
It was nice. Some of us had additional roles too and we were generally left alone if there was nothing else to do, so it was nice talking about people's families and interests, and hearing their voices brighten over the course of five or ten minutes.
I had a Flip3 as a way of trying to kick my QWERTY habit, and it was cool as fuck. It's a great conversation starter (if you like starting conversations!), it's a lovely form factor to carry in it's folded state, and no matter what anyone says, it's satisfying as fuck to end a particularly heated call by slamming the phone shut.
Other than that though... it's just a decent phone. No better or worse than anything else aside from the irritating bloatware.
The hinge was weak as fuck and two of my devices suffered screen bleed from the hinge, but then that was nearly five generations of Flip ago.
Yeah there is an element of that, but I don't think it's entirely controversial to say that it all gets old very quickly.
Critical thinking takes work and research, which is fine for a specific topic or when you're reading something with existing context like something historic... but keeping on top of something where all the belligerents are pushing out narrative on a daily basis becomes fucking soul-destroying to fact-check and evaluate.
