People bought the trash collected from Taylor Swift's wedding.

This level of celebrity worship is so bizarre.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Planets : "Do NOT approach Earth, there's nothing we can do for them."

Eternal192@anarchist.nexus · 15 pts · 37d (3 replies)

You kidding me? They have scopes on us 24/7, we are their equivalent of the Twilight Zone, whole galaxy watches and laughs at our stupidity.

TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id · 5 pts · 36d

The galactic equivalent of 'Ow, my balls'.

BillCheddar@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 36d

That would make UFOs their equivalent to our Scientology Speedrunning challenge?

guyoverthere123@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 36d

They're watching us about to do something stupid.

People worshiping the rich and famous are responsible for a lot of the problems in the world today.

clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works · 13 pts · 37d (1 reply)

More or less than the rich and famous themselves?

dan1101@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 37d

Both in different ways, the masses give them a pass for bad behavior, and also vote for the populists.

betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world · 41 pts · 37d (2 replies)

If it incentivizes people to clean up, I don't hate it as much as I did at first glance. Just won't think too hard about the shipping and other additional waste production involved.

PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk · 12 pts · 37d

Yeah fair play. Mad respect to the domestic and waste workers making the place looks half decent for everyone... but I can't really hate on a guy for tidying shit into bags and selling them to people with more money than sense.

If it makes that corner of the world look a bit nicer for humans and animals alike... I can't hate on it.

kevin2107@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 37d

lmao one person's trash 😂

joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone · 29 pts · 37d

I guess it would be pretty easy to say that Swift fans have been paying for garbage for years but to each their own :P

AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world · 28 pts · 37d (1 reply)

Come on people we jumped the shark on this with gamer girl bathwater a while ago

ech@lemmy.ca · 10 pts · 37d

The real lesson is it was never about the gamers. Weirdos from every walk of life will buy this shit up.

Rivermoonwolf@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 37d (5 replies)

Jesus, people are so desperate for celebrity validation they're actually buying their goddamn rubbish now? What next, someone's gonna auction off Bieber's used condoms?

TrickDacy@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 37d

That would literally go for a million dollars :/

MrKoyun@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 37d (3 replies)

That might be more defensible?

webp@mander.xyz · 2 pts · 37d (2 replies)

Really?

GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca · 5 pts · 37d

At least it would have been in contact with him and contain something previously of him in it. This stuff is garbage from an event that they likely never even got close to. It's only one step removed from someone in the same Manhattan apartment building selling their trash as from the same building Taylor lives in (presuming she has a Manhattan apartment, I don't know). Now, I don't care. Fool and his money and all that.

MintyFresh@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 36d

You could clone him a few times and start your own boy band. Or fundamentalist militia/death cult. Whichever floats your boat.

MIDItheKID@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 37d (8 replies)

It's too bad she's a billionaire POS. If there's one person that could trigger the revolution, it might be her. She just has to say the word. These people would follow.

LastYearsIrritant@sopuli.xyz · 18 pts · 36d (2 replies)

She couldn't get Harris elected, I don't think she has the draw you think she does.

IEatDaFeesh@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 36d (1 reply)

She didn't push hard enough. Her support was "y'all should go out and vote." That statement only indirectly helped Harris because her fans are probably more left leaning.

Duamerthrax@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 36d

Maybe she doesn't really care and is actually benefiting from Trump. Maybe she only put in the bare minimum of effort for appearances as a PR move and didn't really want Harris to win. Maybe I would be willing to have given her the benefit of the doubt if we didn't have to shame her into reducing her private jet usage.

Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 36d (3 replies)

What's the word? Maybe we can trick her into saying it.

Akasazh@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 36d (2 replies)

they changed it last night. it's Mountaineer

boonhet@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 36d

I can't read the word mountaineer and not mention Dead mountaineer's hotel

May want subtitles if you're going to watch it though

somegeek@programming.dev · 4 pts · 36d

You wouldn't want a revolution lead by idiots.

Lemmy is nuts. You see the same memes you saw in high school even though highschool was two decades ago.

Magnum@infosec.pub · 4 pts · 37d (8 replies)

How old was Taylor Swift 20 years ago and why did she get married this early?

InputZero@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 37d (7 replies)

You know for a private investigator, you're not very good at investigating. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Swift

Magnum@infosec.pub · 2 pts · 37d (6 replies)

I was just pointing out that you are lying

ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 37d (5 replies)

That’s a completely different user with (most likely) a completely different face, this is not good detecting

topherclay@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 37d (4 replies)

Yeah it was a different user but we do in fact share the same face.

VoteNixon2016@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 37d

In like a Face/Off way or a Buffalo Bill way

ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 36d

Clayface, I had an inkling

Miller@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 37d

A market for any old celebrity garbage, who could have imagined.

ceenote@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 37d (4 replies)

I never really cared enough to look beyond the marketing for Taylor Swift, so my opinion was pretty much "Whatever, she seems nice enough", but having a wedding in MSG at all is seriously off-putting.

That's not an invitation to list everything bad about her. I still don't care.

This is how the trash was packaged and sold:

SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 37d

You have to appreciate the originality though

rottenmummy@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 37d

Thanks for explaining. Still makes the topic very weird.

Ruling class be like:

DarkDecay@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 37d

Just imagine even telling anyone you knew you bought literal garbage. The shame

BillCheddar@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 36d

Is this like baseball cards, and one of the cubes is like an autographed T&T Wedding Night condom or whatever?

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip · 6 pts · 37d (4 replies)

Honestly, $25 feels kinda low. Each bag could contain stuff that is worth much more, even minus the celebrity bonus.

ech@lemmy.ca · 13 pts · 37d (1 reply)

I'd agree, but the bags weren't what was sold - it was a plastic cube with something like a cubic inch of trash inside. There's a pic elsewhere in the thread.

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip · 5 pts · 37d

There’s a pic elsewhere in the thread.

I saw it. $25 for that? Un-fucking-believable. Like selling off the Berlin wall bit by bit, except that really was a piece of history.

HAL_9_TRILLION@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 37d (1 reply)

Man I hate to have to agree with this because it's just so loathsome, but weddings always have like personalized tchotchkes on the table and shit and if you manage to snag one of those in your $25 bag you'd probably get a thousand dollars for it on ebay.

But "from the edge of a love story" is odd wording. I really would think such bigtime celebrities would see to it that their trash was removed themselves for exactly this reason and that this isn't just random garbage from nearby dumpsters.

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip · 1 pts · 37d

I really would think such bigtime celebrities would see to it that their trash was removed

I was thinking about that, but what are they supposed to do? Pay for secret cremation? That sounds even worse.
This is obviously the result of one person in the removal chain, far enough removed to go unnoticed, thinking they can make some money out of it.

Zarobi@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 36d

People, or person?

UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 37d

This level of celebrity worship is so bizarre.

Is it celebrity worship or celebrity speculation? Like, who are the buyers? Actual dead-end fans? Or people who think they can flip the trash down the line?

We are primates. So the resemblance is striking indeed.

How does that mean they're mismatched?

HugeNerd@lemmy.ca · -2 pts · 36d (1 reply)

I said they LOOK mismatched, JFC does no one fucking read anymore?

He looks like a microcephalic long-limbed tree climber compared to the lithe Swift.

Donkter@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 35d

You said ew, which implies disgust. I mean, I would hope I don't have to spell out why saying "ew" to a couple who you think look too different from one another is a problem.

GhostFace@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 36d (1 reply)

Rude but also it's not any of your business who she chooses to marry.

HugeNerd@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 36d

Then don't fucking post pictures for the world to see? I didn't say it was my business, did I?
