I think what you originally said makes sense in the strictest sense. Technically, not favors. The payment was pizza.

In Frieren, the main hero would always charge a "fee" even to the poorest people who needed help. Often at the cost of totally worthless items because "now they don't owe me". The transaction is complete, no furthur obligation. Even "token" fees are better than ambiguous favors imo. Thats where I usually charge the friend price of a meal for most of my services.

Hibernate is effectively power-off as in same battery drain as true off. IIRC, it puts a flag in bios (or the bootloader?) to go straight into hibernation recovery where it loads the on disk copy of ram back into ram. Basically skipping all the initialization and first time loading stuff.

Fast boot is some janky "we'll just hibernate the core services and everything else is off" junk that just causes more problems. I felt a difference back in Win10+HDD but I don't anymore with SSDs. They really should get rid of it as it always causes unnecessary troubleshooting mysteries or at least turn it on conditionally.

As IT, I don't enable hibernate because its not as fast as sleep. I don't want to deal with the users who complain about the startup speed. (I'll have to investigate again as the modern laptops might be fast enough that it's ok again) I do however allow sleep but it's also so crap that I now get "the laptop is asleep but when i came back the battery is dead!" ugh. win some lose some i guess.

I haven't seen anyone say Enshrouded yet. Im hosting a server on wine/linux for my group. Its like Valheim but with more direction like a quest log and lore and etc. Lots of good reccs on the thread already too.

I can think of a quick and dirty lore explanation being that, disabling the power to shields means it runs on backup / emergency batteries/capacitors for a short while and just waiting for it to discharge or something. Maybe that unlocks additional steps for an attacker to bring it down faster by attacking the emitters or something. It can be both more engaging and a delay/stall tactic.

I do 2 accounts, one normal, one mfa. If only the extension would let you pull from both accounts at once! KepassXC still does the usability better.

... i think i have this fork. We had only the long ones in rotation and then i discovered the rest of the set and put them in service. I prefer yhe short ones for balance reasons. Especially in an empty bowl.

I found just doing it the best for me. Start with proxmox hypervisor on some old pc. Start running a bunch of services. Some documentation mentions "heres how you set it up behind a reverse proxy". "Hmm...whats that" is pretty much how i learned it.

Then compare with people in the homelab communities who are doing differently and find out why.
