I've had a pair of 512GB SD cards for 3 years now and they've worked fine all this time, but I've also dinked around with USB SSDs and haven't had any issues!
Something that might help is to name the drive(s) in the disk manager, as I believe it mounts it to a more consistent directory when it's named (not 100% sure though). This is how I do it just for organization's sake; unsure if it'll help the disk issues 🤷♂️🤔
