I enabled this repo last week on Debian 13 (RTX4080). While it technically works, I'd say it's not without risks for those not a little familiar with linux.
It first required some fiddling cause the file that is supposed to blacklist Nouveau on boot was renamed by apt as .save or something as a result of the package upgrades, so the system just started loading Nouveau instead of the new driver. Fixing this got me further, as the 610 proprietary driver finally loaded.
Sarting my usual plasma X11 session didn't work though. It launched but didn't display shit (grey boxes instead of windows and taskbar basically).
Having also plasma wayland available from sddm, I tried to launch this session and it got me a working desktop. So I ended settling with this. Wayland used to be crap on my system, but with this recent NVIDIA drivers, it's usable. My only real complaint is the extra latency on the mouse cursor.
If I may suggest, there is another way to remove OneDrive, and it can also remove Edge, Teams, Copilot, Recall, or any unwanted bloat from Microsoft. This is a permanent solution and it doesn't even require to fiddle with the registry editor.
I meant Steam OS more specifically. The gaming mode provides a proper console experience, but with the added benefit of being able do whatever the fuck I want. I can run my usual open source software alongside games by simply adding them as a non-steam games, so I can play music with Clementine, use Mumble for voice chat, etc. My favorite thing about it is that it's not a walled garden basically.
Also, what do you mean about steam inserting DRM? Steam as a store allows games to be published with DRM is my understanding. But not all games on Steam have DRM, so how is Valve "inserting" DRM?
The monopoly part is true though, but I'd argue that it is somewhat natural to reach this state given how shitty their competitors are vs how solid steam has been for decades.
I actually agree. There is a few games that provide a linux build but I had to force using the windows version via proton to fix some issue. Last time I've had to do this was Slay the spire II which suffered from a multiplayer crash that just didn't occur on the windows version. Last year I've did the same with X4 Fundation because the performance of the linux build was bad, but it was totally fine via proton.
This is why I'm not amongst these people demanding linux builds for games. I think devs should focus on proton compatibility at this point because it works so well.
Don't care for native games, proton is fine. Most games I own that provide a native build, I still run through proton because it works better somehow.
Far behind? I meant the official APT repository from NVIDIA which provides up to date drivers.

Yes it does, even with the recent introduction of EAC. It's totally fine by me that there is no native Linux build in this case.
