Finnegans Wake! Listened to the Naxos audiobook again-- wonderfully incomprehensible, gloriously elusive, magnificently playful, strikingly obvious, all at once (but of course, it's just five hours, the entire book would take much much more time).
Started Ulysess, but this version was read by an american. Irish or nothing! At last I found Molly Bloom's soliloquy read by an irish; didn't remember it as so risqué, if that's the word, all kinds of phantasies and memories, but it's still very very beatiful and moving.
Always been good with kids. As life turned out, my partner has a career taking them around the world: i'm the tagalong spise looking after the kids. We have three boys, 19, 16, 12. They are all cooler than me in various ways and I have given them all so much more than my parents gave me: emotionally, materially, the lot. They are more open minded, more reasonable, better equipped for life, more stable, more secure... I have them a lot, "sacrificed" quite a bit, time wise, career wise, and soon they're all gone creating their own lives while i'll be following my partner around, trying to patch together a new meaning of this existence.
For a man, it's been an unusual journey. But worth it.
yes. the text over is "Bestemor og mig 3mnd" -- Grandma and me three months ". She, this baby, died an old woman 80+ years later without any kids, never married, afaik never a boyfriend. Only my mother wanted to have her photo album.
Not my tracks, but quite sure they're from ice skates.
snow last year, I have no idea, sorry, I moved back this summer... but if you're really interested, this web page has all the info you'd need https://www.senorge.no/
December was way too warm for snow, earnest on record by far, whereas Jan and Feb have been really really cold and dry. But in general, yes, climate change means less snow, as it's warmer. at least until AMOC collapses.
I wrote a one man play! I am not a professional writer, even though i have tried, and not at all an actor, and the play touches some things in me, i get both angry and sad for real while playing -- 13.1 is the date, and i'm both super stoked and super anxious. but proud! a real achievement in my world.
100km now, but even though i say I’m from there, i have no family and barely any acquaintances left. Still can do the dialect, though, if i make an effort. Usually don’t. And in a couple of years, I’ll move hundreds or thousands of kilometres away. Again.
Yes. Usually when waking up or after dozing off. In extreme cases, i sometimes know i am in location A, and yet struggle to accept it — the sounds or smells or something is just too reminiscent of location B.
Long story short: taught kids about swearing as s substitute teacher, got the principal (my mother) in trouble, wrote a manuscript about swearing, interviewed a linguist about religion for the humanist (atheist) magazine, she invited me to join her book project on swearing, the book was published, the «kulturelle skolesekken» (bringing culture to schools) invited me to tour the northernmost, most swearing part of Norway to talk about swearing.
I’m a crossing guard at school. My amazing trick is to balance the lollipop on my nose.
I also know some Shakespearean sonnets and the first page of finnegans wake by heart, but that’s usually more expected.
The most wow reaction i had from my sons’ friends was when i swore better than them. But then again, i once went on a two week tour to schools teaching the kids how to swear, so .., no big deal.
From Norway. Lived in a handful of countries the last decade or so. Probably going back to Norway this summer. Always a bigger culture shock than going abroad.

Big discussion in Norway atm about this aesthetic-- kitsch? camp? vulgar? too aryan? to chauvinistic? or just too close to nazi symbolism for comfort?

In the US, maybe not. But other places, things are slowly happening. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/feb/09/two-senior-norwegian-diplomats-being-investigated-over-epstein-links
it will take time, though.

Yes, it made it more interesting…

Yes! But like all projects, they die quickly.
One channel for poems, mostly in Norwegian, but the occasional English/German as well Joyce!
Another for teaching Norwegian (in English) Some years old now
Yes, true… I’ve heard people in several countries say yr is their preferred service, so it must be quite good in general.
