It's the main reason I ever sought out trans spaces: people dear to me coming out and me wanting to learn how to... I guess the most honest way to put it, at the time, was "deal with that". I can't say I was particularly understanding or supportive, initially, but I didn't wanna be an ass to people I care about and figured it'd help me be respectful, at least.

Das Problem mit Unternehmen wie diesen ist, dass die ganze Struktur sie gegenüber ihren Eigentümern verpflichtet, immer mehr Profit zu schaffen. Zu versuchen, Gesetze zu kippen, die diesem Ziel im Weg stehen, ist also vorprogrammiert, wenn auch nur die geringste Chance darauf besteht, dass der gerettete Profit größer als die Kosten sein wird.
Natürlich kann eine Firma, deren Geschäft auf ungesundem oder sonstwie schädlichem aufbaut, fundamental nicht ethisch handeln, sonst würden sie entweder radikal umschwenken oder gleich dichtmachen. Da bietet diese Struktur einen praktischen Vorwand: Die arme, arme Firma hat ja leider gar keine Wahl als zu klagen, um Profiteinbußen abzuwenden :((( So ein Pech, echt.
Dass sie klagen können ist nicht grundsätzlich falsch. Das System, dass sie darin bekräftigt und ihnen zumindest oberflächliche Legitimation dafür bietet, ist der üblere Part: solange die Gier nach mehr und mehr Profit die Entscheidungen motiviert und diktiert, wird jedes gute System zum Werkzeug der Raffsucht verdreht.

I think that's the problem. Have you seen how hard it can be these days to rally volunteers to a common cause? Even if people were to back up and preserve all the content of Wikipedia, WM Commons, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikidata etc., getting enough of the original contributors on board to found some new organisation without a thousand splinter factions pulling away over some issue or other is a long shot.
And in the meantime, for-profit corporations now bereft of their largest, free competitor would rush to fill the void and try to become the "new Wikipedia" (now with ads, spyware, premium features and blatant corruption, selling control of truth to the highest bidder).
WMF is a behemoth, kept moving through its own momentum. Letting it break in hopes of building something new is a dangerous gamble, unless we can get the successor up and ready to step in beforehand

I think their point is that someone who pretends to be really good arrives on the OLL/PLL part (or their method's equivalent), doesn't actually know the (valid) combinations and goes off of vague resemblance will take a while to catch on that it's not them getting their algorithms wrong or missing a case.
An experienced cuber may spot the odd number of flipped edges or swap-cycle hybrid of permutations and know it's bollocks right away, but the overconfident one may doubt their own judgement and memory first.

Testing has to come from outside, and with real data. Otherwise it's just a meme of the AI giving itself a medal for passing its own tests.

I don't think I've ever had that issue. My PC shuts down within a few seconds. What kind of things would refuse to terminate?
