I was the age of the characters in the movie when the movie came out. I don't think the movie had any significant impact on our generation or culture or society, but it was extremely impactful on how we felt. Keep in mind that there was no world wide web or cell phones then, so the act of viewing a movie and sharing it with friends* was different than than it is now.
I don't feel changed by the movie, but I loved it. It felt rebellious and very relatable. And I had a major crush on Ally Sheedy.

I think KYC has nothing to do with engineering "inertia", and everything to do with government "inertia". And using the "inertia" metaphor: governments don't get smaller, they only grow (like cancer), and the more "mass" they have, the harder it is to change their "inertia'.
I enjoy technology and automation. If I can make it slightly easier to do something, I might want to do it. It's not too far fetched to also imagine adding a door unlatcher and door opener/closer in my future, which would remove the need to use my hands at all.

I'd like open source hardware and software smart locks, but I'm not technical enough to make one or even install/configure/maintain one if I could find one.
I won't get one that requires cloud connectivity, but I think I have to get one that's made/sold by a for profit company.
My house (and I think most houses) would be trivial to break into even if all exterior doors were bank vault doors. Even with strong locks, many doors have glass in them, windows are easy to pry open or break through and are often left open anyway, spare keys are often hidden in easy to find locations, etc.
My goal with locks is to make it a bit harder or more time consuming for bad actors while not more inconvenient for me. I don't need Fort Knox protection.
Good point. Open-from-inside using facial recognition would cut down on false positives. But I can see how it could be important to not have any situations where your door is unlocked when you don't want it to be.
