used to be. Gumtree.com.au is owned by some company called The Market Ltd. based out of Perth. their share price has been tanking for years though, so i assume they’re just letting gumtree die
a simple privacy policy, clean ad-free browsing, and most importantly: dark mode. but look, not really. if you take a look at Gumtree tho, it’s pretty dead. searching for a pottery wheel around Melbourne has listings with ages from the earliest 18 weeks and the average of about one year. marketplace came in and ate Gumtree, so unless it does something radically different soon, i think it’s just going to die.
i’m not expecting anyone to trust me with their financial information. there is no functionality on the website that allows money exchange. i was looking at probably introducing PayPal in the future for sellers that just want to deliver their items but no money passes through the website, only PayPal.
it’d be disingenuous if i didn’t admit help from an LLM. i have a compsci degree but i’m not a full-stack developer. i built the website bones and functionality but polish and writing prose isn’t my forte.
same! i’m building a pottery studio in my garage (ha) and everyone kept telling me they see 2nd hand wheels on marketplace all the time. i was like, great— that doesn’t help me. and thus garage was born. so if anyone had a secondhand wheel they’re selling, pop it on Garage and i’ll buy it lol
there’s a lot of “straight” guys on Grindr chasing the transwomen but the tolerance comment could cover everyone on grindr; cesspool comments aside, the app is a piece of shit from a usability perspective

i think that’s a fair point. i’ll add something to the about page tomorrow.

sure, but every local website works globally. doesn’t mean they’re built to serve globally.
i haven’t read up about federation and the required APIs and connections required but totally open to it!

uh… mostly bc of my bank account lol i can’t afford to host a global platform

yeah but Gumtree seems dead af lol. Idk, maybe Garage won’t go anywhere. i’m a cyber security professional not a business person lol
no he’s not, that’s far too much credit. he’s merely a puppet for everyone to play with and get their way.
