My experience was 45 minutes drive each way (or 80 min bus) the drive was stressful, because commuter traffic was slow and full of assholes (like me). I wasn’t compensated for that time or stress, I just carried it. Plus the cost of a 2nd car for no reason outside of getting to work.
Work from home gave all of that time and energy back to actually get to live my life during the week, rather than enter a coma like state of barely functioning until it was time to go to work again.
The extra cost of working at the office wasn’t worth it. It wasn’t accounted for in my salary fairly in my mind.
The whole work headspace thing is easy. Get up , get ready, work. At the end of the day, go for a run, get out of the headspace, shower and then its home relaxing time.
WFH was/is an amazing opportunity for people who work doesn’t demand on hand productivity in a warehouse, factory etc.
In terms of climate change, the effects of wide spread WFH and reduced commuter travel was real, and for that alone countries should have run with it, providing incentives to convert unused office space into affordable housing and transformed the landscapes of cities into more walkable spaces. granted the time to achieve that and the businesses that relied on daily office workers business would likely not have survived.
That's a well crafted PR response that does it's best to accept responsibility and give a plausible explanation, which is what's expected. Doesn't mean its true.
It doesn't really fit well with what's in the image to my eyes though.
Maybe a second person saw the ticket, thought someone missed a word and added it, but that doesn't make sense at a high end place to have just anybody doing lettering.
Looking at that 'Happy Birthday' on a plate and thinking something needed to be added, I would not want to touch that perfect cursive even if I had similarly impressive flow, I can't imagine the different shape wouldn't be acceptable at a place like that.
There is no justice in punishing people who’ve become addicted, and are just using to satisfy the addiction.
You know who becomes addicted? The kid who runs/drives/rides in front of a car and ends up on major pain meds. Maybe ticketing parents who let their kids do that, without regard for the evidence of its dangers is a good idea after all.
Any product created by a company that has demonstrated evil intent should be considered evil, even if there are legitimate valid uses. You have to trust not only the person using it, but also the company that controls what the device can/will do with or without the users constent.
My theory is it was an extension of the fish eye lenses use in music videos. Back then they were pretty ubiquitous and carried a certain’We’re bad-ass’ connotation, and for a music album cover, this was the type of one frame that could capture the essence of that.
This will need management and legislation to not turn the world into bad place.
I think this is the key piece. Management and Legislative bodies don’t currently care one whit about people. They only care about money and power so dystopia really seems like the path we’re on.
It will take a massive shift or some major cataclysmic revolutions to change that path.
Long term, it’s not going to create a two tier system. It’s going to drain limited resources from the public system until it fails, and then all we have left is profit driven healthcare that provides worse care than what we were getting for everyone except the richest.
The problem the becomes are the bad or missed calls because they are human, or because the fix is in? That same worry happens with VAR. But it’s reviewable and so bad calls are more easily noticed, and identifying trends is easier.
But propagating notification alerts to followers isn’t reliably that fast.
Having a paid queue to be alerted first makes sense technically.
Huge ethical issues though. This is clearly just corruption. Pay me money and you’ll get insider trading information that won’t actually be called that.
Our system is not set up for anything other than to make the richest people richer, by exploiting the labour of the rest of the people.
Our real system, the closed system known as planet Earth is not set up for endless growth of a human economy. All populations go through growth and crash cycles. The longer we push off the decline, the harder the crash will be.
People need to give up on the idea that the replacement rate needs to be met all the time, everywhere.

We have too many people. We can’t find affordable homes for the people we do have. We can’t meet the energy demands of the people today, without borrowing from the well-being of our planet’s future.

I think the education is a symptom of a deeper problem still, and that is corporate entities owning significant parts of the governing process, through lobbying, campaign financing and a rotating door of government positions and coproate advisers.
They want an uneducated population, because that is how they get a greater and greater share of the say in what the government does each election cycle. Getting Citizens United through was one of the worst they accomplished in recent years, but it won’t end there.
I don’t see how releasing frozen assets counts as any sort of reparations or rebuilding.
If those claims are true, that will 100% be tax payer money.
The administration and most of the media they have bought or bullied into submission will be doing everything in their power to keep the public confused about what money is is what, so they can keep saying ‘this is not your money’ and be misleading but technically correct about certain portions of it.
