That is because in China, the federal government takes care of paying local social services, like schools, emergency services, parks, and libraries. In the US, these costs are funded, in part or in full by properties taxes.

Great another monster sized truck that needs to do a 3 point turn to get on to my street because they can't corner worth a shit. Even Maverick - which might be the smallest pick up I can get in the US right now is the size of a large to mid sized pick up.

Man I'd love to have an EV truck that is the size of one of the old Toyota pick-ups from the 90s. Make me a truck that I can see over the roof of and I am sold.

Facebook owner Meta has become the latest tech firm to say one of its AI models was able to connect to the internet and hack into another organisation's systems, during testing

Meta said the security trials were conducted by Irregular, the same AI security vendor that carried out tests for Anthropic's AI model that had gained access to three other companies' systems.

I am not saying anything about correlation and causation, but if the same "mistake" of this magnitude happened twice with the same vendor, I'd be looking for a new vendor.

You can take you cats out for walks, lots of them like it. But yes I am talking personally about my dog saving my life.

I joined reddit during the great digg migration almost a decade ago a hell of a lot longer than that ago. Joined Lemmy a few years ago but it wasn't quite scratching that itch.

Finally made the switch to https://old.lemmy.world/ (and changed my default sort to be "new comments") while I am at work and I got to say - its working, I feel like I am going back to old reddit when I take my breaks and it was really just the habit and familiarity of the layout that kept me going back there.

Just the reminder that you have to get up and take them outside every day is sometimes the life saver, even if it doesn't feel like it at the time.

I did a couple things to make my life comfy here.

I changed my default sort to be "new comments" - this gave me the biggest perspective change on Lemmy, I now see where the active conversations are and it makes the place feel more full of people and less pages and pages of empty threads. I also found a lot less political stuff this way, because it gets posted a lot but people only interact with just a few of the political posts, so only those one end up floating to the top. I am finding myself getting less politics this way on Lemmy than I was on reddit. Also has the added bonus of highlighting where the active communities are.

I blocked Lemmy.ml and hexbear. A lot of the wilder leftist stuff comes from them and once it was blocked I saw the amount of politics in my feed drop right away.

I like the color choices. A tip for painting with painters tape, if you paint the base color first over the tape, after that dries, paint the contrasting color on top of that, Then remove the tape.

You will get crisper lines, because the bleed with happen with the base color on to the base color, not the contrasting one.

Here is a video that shows how this works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGJGesuD1Vk
