So the mug is the best choice by far, due to its universe-breaking abilities surrounding temperature. Setup a Stirling engine on that for infinite power.
I do have to admit it's a bit disheartening to post that pic, and then people react to it by looking how to use the objects to 'hack' the nature of reality.
Kind of, lol. But you can see the difference in the type of hacking. The objects are only meant to hack your own, private reality. That's what the picture is meant to address, that aspect of our lives that can't be translated into external and/or mechanical utility.
Besides, the issue of energy scarcity that the replies are working off could be fixed or at least minimised through realistic technological and political/economic solutions, with no need for magical objects that defy the laws of physics. But no law or real invention can be guaranteed e.g. to give you good dreams.
I mean, that magic candle single handedly gives hope for reversing universal entropy. Everything else might be personally fulfilling but that thing could be the key to preventing the heat death of the universe.
Which would be pretty personally fulfilling too imo.
mein freund, some of us prefer to focus on extracting the most material value out of these hypothetical objects, simply because we want to. it's fun to imagine the possibilities with the infinite energy from the candle and the mug.
I think that's the point that they're making: it's supposed to be about which object of immense EMOTIONAL value would make people the happiest, and then a lot of people make it about their material value in stead.
As much as I understand their disappointment, though, Lemmy of all places is so full of nerds and geeks (said with love as a geek myself) who know a lot about technical stuff that it was pretty much bound to happen..
That was my realization when I invited people to my minecraft server and saw people dig a whole and breed cows just to kill them for xp, while I was over there giving them grass and water and a nice fence
I dont know how much energy you'd get per hour from a hot mug though. I'm much more intrigued by a blanket that would keep you safe in the arctic as well as the Sahara.
It depends on how you define the words "drink" and "warm". If "drink" includes something like molten tungsten, and "warm" includes 6200F then you can get a bunch of energy out of it
Not all liquid moving near the throat is drinking. Drowning, for example, isnāt drinking. It has to be ingested using swallowing muscles, etc. Molten lava would disintegrate the perimeter of your mouth and throat. Thatās ādrinkingā like a shotgun to the face is āeatingā.
I recently got put on new meds that give me really vivid dreams that I remember. Theyāre not bad dreams, but theyāre not really good dreams either. Itās the worst.
favorite mug is the best for breaking the laws of physics and generating infinite energy - though the blanket and the candle also have infinite heat, the mug would be the most versatile, as you could fill it with a super-hot liquid, then treat it like an RTG, generating electricity from the temperature difference between the mug and its environment. use the mug as your spaceship's power supply, and you'll never even need big honkin photovoltaic panels !
Fuck the rest that pillow is the only way to go. Dreaming means I hit REM every night which means I am better at most of the other times almost automatically
I will literally settle for just one quality of one of these.
Give me the "perfect temperature blanket," I don't even care if it's soft or the right size. If it somehow stabilized my temperature so it didn't feel like it fluctuated 20ā° every hour, I would sleep like a baby
If not for the "almost", I'd have chosen the candle for sure, but as long as it's not COMPLETELY impossible, my ADHD/anxiety combo is GOING to find something to stress about.
So yeah, I'm going to go with the treasure stone and hope people don't get the wrong idea about me fiddling in my pocket at high pressure moments š
If I was a fae creature, I'd get the endless candle so I could lure people to my hut in the forest and they would not get a sense of danger at all (assuming everyone around the candle can also feel the effects by smelling it)
Damn, usually these challenges are pretty bad and there's only one or two good options so it makes choosing easier but this one is horrible becuase everything is amazing. I want it all!
The fact that the pillow won't help my awful insomnia (or help you fall asleep in general) makes it so close to being the best choice to me, but it falls short in the most frustrating way.
Technically it says every night not every sleep it gives you good dreams, so either you'll be forced asleep so you can dream or you'll have pleasant day dreams while you lie awake at least.
The others have cool abilities, but I'd take the Treasure Stone - I'm anxious when it comes to confrontation and speaking, so something I could hold onto to make me more confident in myself would be a godsend.
Blankets curse would suck but pillows would be great, less time in reality yes please. Bears curse is already a thing so whatever. Endless candles curse? Just vibe stress free and then have a nice stress free suicide when I'm out of money? Honestly sounds ideal. Good curses on mug and stone tho
Iād kill for that mug if it could also keep drinks cold
I make iced lattes every morning and use a mug for it, and Iād kill for it to stay cold for more than 5 minutes without adding so much ice it becomes weak
cuddly bear cause I hate feeling empthy at times, favorite mug cause I am going to put a very hot liquid in it. Than harvest the heat energy that the mug uses to keep the liquid warm, to ensure that the maximum amount of energy is created to preserve the temperature I am going to put it in the fridge. Infinite energy source. š
Endless candle would be good for battlefield imagine new recruits not having to go through stress and just straight up function as they were trained. Probably removes PTSD or reduce the chances.
Well, nah - stress is "almost impossible". Which means that it is possible, and with disorders it wouldn't work at all most likely. Without it being 100% every time, I don't think it is worth discarding other items.
As for functioning as they were trained - the bravery stone would be better I think. Stress is a great motivator, couple that with complete and utter bravery and you have an army that never routes
