Just want to give a shoutout to decadentrebel for their recommendation on where to have headphones repaired. Looks like I'll be able to use my wireless headphones again after its battery bloated. I'll have to make sure I charge these more carefully next time.

Shame lemm.ee wasn't around when I first propped up the community. It was literally just the big three (ml, grad, beehaw) and world was barely a week old but I had faith in their background. One hopes this is just a minor blip in their radar.

Oo nga eh.
Events like this make me more and more convinced that communities are better off dispersed among different instances, perhaps a bunch of related communities being bundled together in a themed/geographical instance. However, it's unfortunate that events like this also highlights the importance of knowledgeable and competent instance admins (on top of other technical requirements for running an instance, as well as the legal responsibilities of the choice of hosting location), thus establishing an instance, and administrating it is a heavy responsibility.

Judging from the github ticket, it seems like it's a vulnerability on all lemmy instances. But the attack can only happen on instances where the markdown editor has generated the sidebar etc with vulnerable HTML code. The devs still needs to patch the vulnerability to ensure it won't happen again.

Nag-log-off muna ako sa lemmy.world, tapos iwas muna sa mobile app. And once this is all resolved, balak kong palitan passwords ko sa lahat ng accounts ko sa iba't-ibang instances. (Pati na yung sa nsfw, lol!)
Di ko lang sure kung okay rin na mag-change password muna ngayon (kahit na di pa resolved). Kaso baka naman ma-lock-out ako sa account eh.

GIven what I know of the timeline of the attacks so far, this seems legit. It also is consistent with the overall tone and content of the post they've made earlier.
I am still disappointed about their response, especially this part:
That seems like a wilful attempt at not addressing this issue. They just don't think it will happen, no justification, and then throwing the burden of providing justification to the other side. It also sidesteps the glaring issue that EEE is not something that is solely technical (standards, etc.). For example what is going to stop Meta from just forcing their way into changing the standards to their own will, justified that they have the biggest share of the Fediverse by number of users?
Besides, no amount of "you don't understand xyz" ever would allay people's fears. People, rightly, are fearful of Facebook, aka Meta. What's their answer to that fear? Telling that people have nothing to fear about? How about telling people why it is nothing to be fearful of?

Looks like it's not just lemmy.world that's under attack. I've seen two threads at the moment saying that Blahaj also got hacked.
It might be a bit worse than it seemed to be. People are speculating it's a coordinated attack.

Spent most of the weekend just playing Divinity Original Sin 2. I played the first game but got bored with it at some point. I don't even remember much about the story. The sequel on the other hand felt more engaging and having an option to start with pre-made character is actually a plus. I can see why there's excitement over the developer (Larian Studios) working on Baldur's Gate 3.

It's a quirk of federation. You can only access and interact with you instance's local copy of a post from another instance. You won't see updates from other instances until the data has synchronized.

Say what you want about the lifestyle and the man, but damn he sure is charismatic. Also nice to hear that he's gone legit (owns a business), and the fact that his former girls help him (according to him) says quite a lot. I've heard that pimps are really charismatic, and I do tend to agree.

I was actually watching the thread you linked earlier, as well as other posts about it. And for some reason, in one of the threads I clicked, I was taken to Lemmy.world (which I am glad I noticed in time). Dun ko na nakita yung offensive logo and shit. Some others commented about seeing something about "the site being taken down by Reddit due to copyright infringement".
