A lot of times I say "hey" instead!

harsh3466@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Hey.

best_username_ever@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 2y

Listen!

Zeppo@sh.itjust.works · 19 pts · 2y (4 replies)

I say howdy, though that makes some people mistakenly assume I’m from the south.

gndagreborn@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Happens to me all the time. Then if I append a y'all, outside of Texas, it's game over.

ouRKaoS@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 2y

I'm in Indiana, and "Howdy y'all" flies perfectly fine here.

GlitterInfection@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

This is me in you form!

Eylrid@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Howdy, howdy, howdy, I'm Woody

reallyzen@lemmy.ml · 12 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Yo. It's cringe AF for a pot-bellied, mid-50's white dude to say but it's kinda automatic.

Probably worse in my native French.

Broken_Monitor@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

Its either that or Hey. Weirdly, hey is my more formal greeting I use on the corpos at work. Yo is for people I’m cool with.

I'm a "Moin" person. Northern German for ... Every conceivable greeting phrase on any time of day, night or apocalypse. And a complete conversation, too.

Zectivi@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2y

I’m a hello, but I noticed my manager is a “hey how’s it’s going?” person. I asked him how many people actually tell him how things are going, and he said very few do. If we’re walking together, we now make note of the people who do or don’t answer.

EmoDuck@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 2y

As a south German living in the north I like to throw a few "Servus" around now and then. Keeps people on their toes, never know just what to expect

I live in colombia and i just learned a couple new ways to say hi that aren’t just “hola”

You can say:

¿Que mas? means what’s up?

¿Como vamos¿ means how are we doing?

¿Bien o que? means good or what?

All of them are greetings.

frightful_hobgoblin@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

¿que onda? if you're a cool kid

That’s mexican spanish.

¿Que tal?

Chai@lemmy.sdf.org · 4 pts · 2y

It varies according to the time of the day and or who I'm greeting. I think I mostly say 'good morning' etc.

neidu2@feddit.nl · 4 pts · 2y

"Hey, guys"

toomanypancakes@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

I usually go with good morning, regardless of time of day

jet@hackertalks.com · 4 pts · 2y (1 reply)

[nod]..... and if i really like you [nod up]

disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

Or raised eyebrows and smirk if I’m tired.

SkyerixBOI@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

Casually, Hey Friends, Ay / yo Professionally, Hello

Context and all that.

multicolorKnight@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

Depends:
"Hello" or "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening" - express deference or with people I don't know
"Hi" - more casual, for coworkers or acquaintances
"Hey", "Yo", or "'Sup" - with close confidants
"Greetings" (with an over-pronounced T, I'm American) - flying the weird flag

CaptObvious@literature.cafe · 3 pts · 2y

Usually some version of “Hey!”

thelsim@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 2y

Hi hi, or hoi hoi in Dutch.
It looks weird when I actually write it down though.

PopOfAfrica@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

I say howdy.

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good day.

orangeNgreen@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

I’m surprised I’m not seeing more “what’s up, brother?”

shikitohno@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 2y

I stick to "How are ye?" most of the time I say something, otherwise just a nod or a wave.

VinesNFluff@pawb.social · 1 pts · 2y

Irl I'm a "good [time of day]" person

When texting I have the habit of initiating conversations with "a."

A habit that has metastised to some close friends and family members, which does please me

Edit: Lemmy ate my time of day

'Allo-'allo is my default greeting for most people I know personally. It's bilingual (English-French) without devolving into the soulless Bonjour-Hi of customer service.

l_b_i@yiffit.net · 1 pts · 2y

hello, or greetings.

Num10ck@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

XTL@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 2y

I'm something else. At least that's what they tell me.

andrew_s@piefed.social · 1 pts · 2y

I tend to use the version of 'alright?' that's not actually a question.
