Joke’s on you. It’s grey and cloudy here.

Way better than what you have!

You ever have a day where you have action paralysis, struggle against the brick wall of zero motivation, waste time on rubbish, and then think fck it, I’ve wasted so much of the day anyway I don’t want to even try for the remainder of the day. It’s one of those.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 1y

We call those 'weekdays'.

dumblederp@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

Feels like every day at the moment TBH.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

That's exactly it for me, I said I was going to do all these chores, 7 hours later barely budged. I just rolled with it after it became clear nothing was happening. Luckily I can get away with it now... pretty soon I won't.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 16 pts · 1y (5 replies)

One of the most important members of the technical team rang me on my mobile (im on sick leave) and told me she's quitting.

She is one of the most amazing and intelligent people i have ever met. She is the companies knowledge base, and they are doing to her what they're doing to me. The work overload.

They pay her poorly. Very poorly. And knocked back raises in the past.

I told her what I did, and she's going to give it a last shot.

Rome is burning.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y

Telltale signs of shitty management. If this isn't addressed quickly and effectively, time to leave. Good luck with the job search :)

Duenan@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (3 replies)

If everyone’s leaving what are they left with it?

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y (2 replies)

You assume that business owners and management want to have a thriving and growing business. To too many owners and management a business is just a vehicle from which to extract money and or power/benefits.

The sad bit is that the workers believe in the work.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Well I can’t figure out the exact plan of they’re planning. You take over a business to gut it and kill it?

Sounds like a a lot of people have left at his workplace.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

The business is a means to money , nothing more.

I've been reeking of garlic (and, embarrassingly, sweat) all morning and lolling around in bed shamelessly avoiding uni obligations. House is a dumpster. Well, I'm done with being gross now... time to start with the mountain of chores to bring this place back to sanity.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 1y (8 replies)

Lol. I've got stuff on the floor in every room but I have tidy cupboards and drawers. Throwing out a heap of shit. I found napisan that expired in 2014. Everytime I mark something off my list I add another 2 things to it. I feel ya. 💜

We've had a clear out of the child's room... 5 trips to the op shop and I still have 2 boxes to take, and filling up a 3rd. And I'm about to tackle the plastics drawer and that dreaded 3rd cutlery drawer...

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Napisan expires?

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

The active ingredient degrades slowly over time. Nothing bad will happen if it’s used, it just won’t be effective in whitening clothes. So the manufacturer puts an expiry date, mostly so people don’t complain ‘it didn’t work’

mertn22@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y

The expiry date also 'helps' people to buy the product more often.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Catfish@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (2 replies)

The taste of catfish can be described as mild and slightly sweet. It has a tender, flaky texture and a unique flavor that is often compared to that of chicken. Some people also say that it has a slightly earthy or muddy taste, which is more pronounced in larger catfish. -- shameless net steal

Taleya@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 1y (15 replies)

Jesus christ, giveacrap just keep digging that hole.

  • failed delivery due to shitty delivery company - i bring it to their attention - they resend with same company and driver. Rinse and repeat six friggin' times

  • I look up our order history and realise this shit has been going on with every single order for the past year. F this. I cancel everything. Ain't got time for that shit. Especially since the guys who deliver my cat litter do tp now.

  • Leave a review on productreview under the usual nick telling them they used to be great, but now they're not and they need to stop using the cheapest, shittiest couriers and callcentres they can get their hands on, and they've lost a loyal customer.

  • This from their staff doesn't pm me on productreview, but instead runs my nick through their database, matches my email and emails me directly asking 'did you leave this review?' Not looking to resolve the issues or regain a customer, nope, just wants the bad pr to go away.

He's about to become extremely fucking acquainted with the word 'inappropriate'

kudra@aus.social · 6 pts · 1y

@Taleya @briongloid had it with them about a year ago, just awful couriers, failed at least 3 delivery attempts in a row and I told them to go jump. Switched to Yarn'n, who so far haven't fucked up once, but I'm kindof waiting for it to happen, it just seems almost inevitable.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Oh! I've not had trouble with them aside from couriers who literally throw and run. What is knocking? Possibly because we are so close to the main DC?

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Yikes. That sounds awful... I haven't had a new delivery in well over a year because I forgot to delay one before and I've still got a whole unopened box to use. Did the company get bought over or something?! Why must even WGAC fall to enshittification -_- although it is perhaps ironically fitting that they do. Ugh.

Feels really unsettling, all the brands you felt good about and safe with ending up like this, like all your friends turning into dropkicks and your old life is no more.

The other day I read about Kogan having an energy plan (wtf to even that) and really horrible service - apparently it's white labelled Powershop. Jesus, anyone remember when Powershop were the energy brand of choice for us greenies before they got inexplicably sold to Shell...

kudra@aus.social · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

@just_kitten @Taleya the other thing that sucks about WGAC is the toilet paper is coming all the way from China. We DO NOT need to ship bum roll from effing China, it's one of the least sensible things to buy from there, srsly.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y

we haven't opened the rolls yet, but eco247 sell them now, so hoping they're good! These are the guys we get our whopping great refill wheelie bins of cat litter delivered from, so having them do both the cats and us in regards to poop tickets tickles me wonderfully

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I’m finding it the same, all the things I used to be ok with and rely on suddenly aren’t working well

Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

In my case it's them partnering with a shitty courier and having customer service mishandle it to the point of cancellation. But the mishandling to the point of a federal complaint is a new one for me....

The courier issue is a fucking mind boggle because it's ANC. And i use pet circle. Who very fucking famously use ANC and i have had ZERO delivery issues. Ever. Different tiers and SLAs i guess

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I had a lot of trouble with them in the past before I eventually cancelled my subscription, like delivering the wrong things when I varied the order, missing orders, customer service that was friendly but incompetent, incorrect billing.

dumblederp@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (3 replies)

You could add their breach of data privacy to the productreview complaint.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Is it formally a breach? 'Cos will absolutely take them for that.

There's an implicit threat in choosing to communicate with me in this manner and i am not fucking having it

dumblederp@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

They should've contacted you on productreview. I don't know the law enough to say it's a breach. OVIC does... https://ovic.vic.gov.au/privacy/for-the-public/privacy-complaints/

Taleya@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y

so checked up, it's oaic.gov.au you want for a private sector company, ovic do public sector. But yeah, this was a massive misuse of my personal data, they're fucked.

Grackle@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I've heard good things about these guys ( https://aboutadog.com.au/ ) I haven't had a chance to use them yet as I'm still working my way through my current stock.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

That's who I get mine from last time, after WGAC annoyed me by reducing the minimum time for their subscription. The paper is ok but not great quality, probably equivalent to the WGAC standard recycled stuff. The wrapping for each roll has lots of animal pictures on it, which I consider to be a good feature.

kudra@aus.social · 1 pts · 1y

@RustyRaven @Grackle who do they use to deliver? It would be good to have a backup if Yarn'n go down the gurgler.

Once a little sugar ant made up his mind to roam -

To fare away far away, far away from home.

He had eaten all his breakfast, and he had his Ma's consent

To see what he should chance to see; and here's the way he went -

Up and down a fern frond, round and round a stone,

Down a gloomy gully where he loathed to be alone,

Up a mighty mountain range, seven inches high,

Through the fearful forest grass that nearly hid the sky,

Out along a bracken bridge, bending in the moss,

Till he reached a dreadful desert that was feet and feet across.

'Twas a dry, deserted desert, and a trackless land to tread,

He wished that he was home again and tucked-up tight in bed.

His little legs were wobbly, his strength was nearly spent,

And so he turned around again and here's the way he went -

Back away from desert lands, feet and feet across,

Back along the bracken bridge bending in the moss,

Through the fearful forest grass, shutting out the sky,

Up a mighty mountain range seven inches high,

Down a gloomy gully, where he loathed to be alone,

Up and down a fern frond and round and round a stone.

A dreary ant, a weary ant, resolved no more to roam,

He staggered up the garden path and popped back home.

ooh the 'r' came up as reg. trademark that's new.

No fish for fisherman so they’re gone too.

No more kippers for us as well.

🥲

NOOOOOO

briongloid@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

Oh no, I didn't really shop there but they had one in my very rural town I grew up in.

It's a shame, I suppose Kmart was too competitive at the budget price-point.

Waaaaahh! Where will I get shoes now?

dumblederp@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I've hated everything I've ever gotten there. I wonder if it's related to Catch closing in April.

Questions: If I wanted to post a video I've made but it won't upload because it says "image too large" What does that mean? Is it my phone or lemmy? Is it too high resolution? How do I fix it. It's 24 seconds long. I have a Samsung A21s. So many questions. Not important. Just adding to my list of tech achievements.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Too big for Lemmy.

The video I uploaded was 30s long and 19mb

You’re probably better off throwing it on a 3rd party site like YouTube and linking us to there given I couldn’t load it on my phone app and also size of things might be too much for the server if we do it a lot.

Edit: my video was 720p

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I made a 4 second one after my post and the link came up like yours but it wouldn't play. I'm gonna look at my apps and see if there's a player there. Brb.

briongloid@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Alternatively, you can look into convenient methods of compressing your bitrate, before attempting to upload.

Today was a gloriously gross indulgent write-off (terrible for me eyes and body), but at least I did manage to make dinner and deal with the Doom Pile of Dishes. I tried eating rice with a fork to be silly and still found it incomprehensible so I googled "why do white people eat rice with a fork". Apparently because it is just a starch to eat with other dry things you need a fork for: it is like a crumbly potato. Cool. Well, I'm still going to stick with a spoon anyway...

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

why do white people eat rice with a fork

Spork.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (6 replies)

Because I’m silly - how do you eat rice properly with chopsticks? I can use them and pick things up okay but doesn’t drier and crumbly (long grain) rice fall, or even if you get a clump isn’t it hard to pick up more than a little bit at a time?

I’m guessing picking up a mouthful of sticky short grain rice is easier, or when it’s mixed in with sauce and other food to bind it.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

You use the chopsticks differently for rice. Think "shovel"

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I use a fork at home and don't understand why it's an issue. Italians and Spaniards eat rice with a fork.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

It’s not easy with chopsticks.

Quite honestly if I’m faced with it I either get a spoon or if lacking I have to hold the bowl up to my mouth and sweep it in with the chopsticks.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Most cultures that use long grained rice don't use chopsticks, it's either using their hands directly or a spoon (both are how I grew up eating rice and I dare say much of South and southeast asia). Ironically with sticky rice it's harder with sauce as it tends to un-bind the rice.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 0 pts · 1y

Thanks, that makes sense

Has anyone epoxied carbon fibre cloth onto something?

I have a heat shield that I failed to paint properly and now I’m thinking that I might do the above instead.

Only problem is I need such a small piece of cloth. Not worth buying a whole lot.

LowExperience2368@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

yes but a very long time ago

you need to prep it very well, clean the surface then sand it, otherwise it will delaminate off, especially if there is heat involved

brush on a coat of epoxy first, let dry to tacky, sand a little, put on the cloth, paint the cloth with epoxy, let dry to tacky, put on another coat or two

The sleep meds didn’t really work too well. A few nights ago they did kick in so it works sometimes but last night was a bit of a fizzle. I managed to doze a bit though.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (8 replies)

The woollies homebrand peas are really dreadful.

No matter how I cook them or for how long theyre hard and starchy.

It’s so dreadful, thank god I managed to get peas from Aldi. I didn’t notice the Aldi peas being like that but I’ll find out in the next few days if I was just imagining it.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (5 replies)

Aldi frozen stuff is usually solid in quality. I think most of it is packed in Europe, so that might be why.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Yeah. I normally get most of my frozen veg from Aldi now, seemed to be better in quality.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Their frozen green beans are shit. A lot of stalks in there. They might’ve changed now. It's been years since I bought them from there.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I have never found good frozen green beans. It's a veggie we always get fresh.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I use both. Frozen beans are usually an after thought in a stir fry to balance the colours.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Ah yes, the bulk up so the food has some colour and apparent nutrition 😜

We do the same. If it looks too 'meaty', peas, carrots and corn add a bit of fibre

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Probably left a bit long before harvest?

You could treat them like the starchy marrowfat peas. Have some mushy peas with a pie or fish and chips

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I’m almost done with the pack so I’ll be rid of them soon.

Just had enough after 3kg of them.
