Just get some tinnitus the fan noise is basically the same!

SidewaysHighways@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 1y

i need the fan noise to drown out the ringing!

Mnem667@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 1y

Alternative: Ménière's disease, so you just can't hear it!

I don't even sleep with a fan for the noise, I love the sensation of wind in my face and also being warm under the blankets while the room feels freezing.

Landless2029@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

I wrap myself up in blankets but make a small tunnel for cold air to hit my face. Feels great.

QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I leave one foot out. Warm foot and cool foot. Perfect balance.

BigChungus@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y (1 reply)

But what about the monsters under the bed?

QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 1y

I mean, if they reach out and grab me then I’ll at least see where things go

TwanHE@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

Mummy sleeping bag in a tent feels great as well after a long day. Bit of a chilly face makes the rest feel that much more comfy

hedge_lord@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I need my fans in order to sleep. Their worship is what sets my mind at ease. If I am not lulled into slumber by their jubilant adorations I will wake with a great and terrible vengeance to wreak havoc upon this ungrateful earth

prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 1y

Well yes, of course, that’s why the hedge_lord accords were written into the fan laws.

But for everyone else …

HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 17 pts · 1y (7 replies)

Wait, can people sleep with the noise of a fan in the background? I like complete darkness and complete silence.

Ibaudia@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I have tinnitus so I can't sleep without a fan or noise-maker.

HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Me too, but I don't really feel that bothered by it.

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 7 pts · 1y

I can't sleep without the noise of a fan in the room.

HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone · 6 pts · 1y

That would be ideal, but a problem arises when there isn't complete silence in the background. Noisy neighbors, housemates, cats running around in the hallway at 3 in the morning. The fan noise mutes it to some degree, and then you begin to register the fan as silence-adjacent.

socsa@piefed.social · 3 pts · 1y

Because this is not an option for 99% of people. Even if you are in the sticks you get the bugs making noise.

KuroiKaze@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

I absolutely need the fan noise since it's steady and keeps me cool

Raiderkev@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

My wife. Drives me nuts.

Mr_Fish@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1y

You're really not a fan of that idea. You just need to chill out about it.

TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 1y (3 replies)

I don't sleep with a fan, it blows air on me and that sucks becaue I'll wake up with eye boogers and my eyes will feel weird. I don't understand how people would prefer that

I can understand the noise aspect though, even if I don't personally like it. My parents have used a little noise machine for the past 10 years.

KuroiKaze@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y

That simply doesn't happen to me, had a fan on my face my entire life

HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone · 2 pts · 1y

The trick is to point it at your feet, not your face. Faster temperature regulation when you have to stick exactly one foot out to not be too hot.

thejoker954@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

I just make sure the fan isnt blowing directly at my face. Keeps eye issues at bay.

venotic@kbin.melroy.org · 4 pts · 1y

I can't sleep in silence because I got idiot tenants I live around that got to make noise at night. They don't know what volume control is.

Can I still use the AC though

Zeth@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

Sure you can. But the fan can't spin. Good luck!

trolololol@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

Asians go yeeeeeey

Honest question: I always have my fan, even in winter, because of the noise. I haven't found a video that sounds the same, they end up sounding like static or something. Maybe flat? Anyone actually know of one that sounds like a good fan?

prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

They sell white noise machines which might be what you’re looking for, granted it’s not a video BUT they’re small and portable enough to throw in a carry on.

2ugly2live@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

I'll have to check some out. The ones I've tried always sound static like.

Simulation6@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Have you tried a brown noise generator? Not a fan, but works for me.

2ugly2live@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

I haven't tried brown noise. I'll give that a shot, thank you. 😊
