As a Brit, beans and cheese on toast is probably my cheat meal. I don't go overboard though and only have it once or twice a day.

D_C@lemm.ee · 10 pts · 1y

Fucking casual.

FooBarrington@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1y (6 replies)

I've never tried that - what kinda cheese do you recommend?

Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 1y (5 replies)

I can't imagine a brit using anything other than cheddar.

FooBarrington@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Oh really? Awesome, I thought they'd use something milder. Sounds great, I'll try that, thanks!

Korhaka@sopuli.xyz · 4 pts · 1y

Cheddar is named after the part of the UK it comes from

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I guess you could get mild cheddar

FooBarrington@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Oh no, I like intense cheese. But you know British people

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

You know what they say about British people. Got British feet, gonna have British beans.

supamanc@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

Next time you make beans, simmer them in a pan for like 30 mins, with a massive chunk of butter. UNREAL

I have this weird fascination with the typical stew of beans and meat in westerns. They look like they taste good.

spankmonkey@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 1y

They do!

Every time I'm eating refried beans with bolillo (bread) and some valentina sauce I think about this scene and feel like a cowboy.

It’s interesting hearing the history of the spice trade. The English considered spices for the peasants, so that’s why their cuisine is ass.

tatann@lemm.ee · 11 pts · 1y (1 reply)

To my personal experience, ass can taste better than british cuisine

raoulduke85@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 1y

Asstastic!

Beans (lemmy staple meme)

Thteven@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 1y

Did someone say beans?

MithranArkanere@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 1y (1 reply)

You have not eaten beans the right way until you have eaten FABADA.

What makes FABADA so great is that it's also a hex code for a very sexy pink.

S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 8 pts · 1y

Spain is the country where you eat good. You probably have a fav dish from somewhere else. But with the insane variety of dishes they have, and even local specialities up to 5 per city Madrid and Barcelona have specialities per neighborhood even. They surely will nail one you'll like and the serving... They'll fill a fucking plate and you will leave it clean. Tortilla de papas con Jamón iberico de bellota... You ever taste that ham you'll probably die...

elbiter@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 1y

It shouldn't be called food just because the Brits eat it...

NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz · 12 pts · 1y

I;m thinking about thos beans

What's wrong with beans now?

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 1y (29 replies)

I hate the Brits as much as anyone but baked beans beat refried beans any day of the week.

phdepressed@sh.itjust.works · 21 pts · 1y (10 replies)

I mean this is the internet so no one is stopping you from making false statements. But also refried beans are just one type of Mexican bean preparation.

bollybing@lemmynsfw.com · 4 pts · 1y (6 replies)

Baked beans are also just one type of British bean preparation.

phdepressed@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 1y (5 replies)

Are any of the British preps actually spicy?

OCATMBBL@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Depends on whether or not you count the whole historical British Empire.

phdepressed@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 1y

No, colonies of oppressed people who were not afforded the benefits of british citizenry don't count.

exasperation@lemm.ee · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Some daals are spicy, and could arguably be considered British?

phdepressed@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1y

Lentils aren't beans, and daal is as British as tacos are American by that logic.

rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee · 2 pts · 1y

If you're the kind of person who thinks applesauce is spicy, yeah.

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · -3 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Bro, refried beans look like diarrhea and taste like ass at least 90% of the time.

I've had some good ones occasionally but they're few and far inbetween. I don't even order combos at Mexican restaurants anymore, just gimme da tacos straight and save the frijoles for your dog.

frog@feddit.uk · 7 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Stop getting beans from diapers. Those aren't beans.

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 1y

Stop gaslighting me as if I'd never seen any frijoles in my entire life.

Even professional food photographers struggle at making these look appetizing, and that's AFTER throwing a bunch of garnish on or around them.

Sorry, but you're still just polishing a turd.

I've never had borracho beans but I googled them and I'm intrigued. Beer and bacon are some of my favorite food groups.

andros_rex@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

You need to taste the lard. The host’s English is limited to “how many?”

The real places won’t even serve you cheese dip.

Churbleyimyam@lemm.ee · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Are you from Benidorm?

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 1y

What's that

Timecircleline@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 1y (12 replies)

Including taco Tuesday???

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 7 pts · 1y (11 replies)

Especially on Taco Tuesday.

Timecircleline@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 1y (4 replies)

I'm uncomfortable.

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 1y (3 replies)

It's the hardshell tacos, isn't it.

Timecircleline@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Yes.

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

If it helps, this isn't my own picture. I would probably use softshell tacos as well because I'm not a barbarian.

MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 1y

What's wrong with hard shell tacos?

takes one bite and the rest disintegrates

That's what the fork is for.

garbagebagel@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

This is probably the most disrespectful thing I've seen all year.

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 1y

Wait till you see this.

Iheartcheese@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Mexico will remember this.

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 1y

Nah you won't, we'll just drink another cerveza and maybe a couple shots of mezcal and then we'll all be friends again.
