For me, it's like this. Do you know people in the same way you know a country? I'm not talking to Canada, I'm talking to Canadians. And our country, USA is a lot effed up right now. And that's gonna harm a lot more USians than it will help, I fear. I know a few Canadians, and would do a lot for any of them because of who I know them to be on a personal, not national basis. Doubtless selection bias of some sort going on to be sure. Maybe you know some people of a different nationality, ethnicity, etc, and you know they are decent people even tho' it might be the case that their government is absolute shite. And I didn't ask for anything, Said 'save yourselves first' and gave a metaphor for why that is important, but for the moment I don't really need an o2 mask, it's a metaphor.
