imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Have a safe trip!!!!

bacon@aussie.zone · 13 pts · 1y

My meows are realistic enough that it attracted the attention of a strolling cat who looked disappointed before moving on. Further meows were ineffective.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 12 pts · 1y

The Seagoon has landed.

It's like a jump in Sliders, it looks the same in nearly everyway , just has these little differences.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 12 pts · 1y

FUCKING DONE. 12 FUCKING HOURS IN OFFICE, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

I am not getting less than 4 hours of Simon time tonight. I refuse to go home and just crash. Fuck that.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I will always find the look a cat gives you when you accidentally touch them after they've cleaned themselves utterly hilarious.

Just absolute disdain lol

Eagle@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Accidentally? We do that for shits and giggles!

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

rub them the wrong way

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 1y

7.5 hours to go.

Kill me now. Why can't I be a spoilt housecat instead of the slave of one :(

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 1y (1 reply)

3 hours. Now that the stores are closed, they'll attempt their IT requirements.

Here comes the tsunami

Edit: I feel awful because the strays will be fed 3 hours late but there's nothing I can do :(

Duenan@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

You can do it! Not long to go now!

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Just dropped a coffee mug whilst doing the dishes. It smashed on the tiles. Was one of the ones I liked. Boo-hoo.

underwatermagpies@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

Noooooo!

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Fuck. Did you stare at it until you realised you can't put Humpty back together again?

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Yes, accompanied by a vague moan.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Let the 12 hour day begin :(

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

Boo

Catfish@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Damn stabbing bra wire!

Thought I'd found somebody's missing cat today, but sadly not.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I'm now curious how the whole cat thing went down. Did you kidnap a random cat and now don't know who it belongs to? Did you have a delusional moment where you thought you found a cat but it turned out to be a pair of balled up socks in reality?

Catfish@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y

๐Ÿ˜น there was a random cat in my yard yesterday annoying my boys through the window.I took pics. This morning somebody put up a lost post that looked the same, but after extra detailed pattern analysis of the two it was not the right cat. Sadness.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1y (5 replies)

YL walks in and says "What is this song I keep singing?" I listen, I answer "Air Supply. All out of love". She walks out and I hear a tiny "fuck".

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Sheโ€™s so lost without you..

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (3 replies)

True

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (2 replies)

But I know we were right, believing for so long

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

That was the bit she was really passionate about.

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Hahaha

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1y

Was tired but now can't sleep. Been scrolling Imgur, looking at real estate I fantasize about buying, clearing emails and quiet stuff on my phone. At least it's lovely and quiet.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y (24 replies)

Ok, what's everyone's guess on the verdict of the mushroom trial?

Mine is: Not Guilty

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 1y (5 replies)

Not guilty would mean she'll be in the media for years to come.

Hoping for guilty in that case.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Not guilty means she didn't intend on deliberate deaths.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Having not followed the trial, would not guilty mean she's released?

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Yep

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Still hoping for guilty. I've formed my opinion and it was deliberate.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

๐Ÿ˜‚

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1y (4 replies)

I think sheโ€™s guilty, but sheโ€™ll get away with it because reasonable doubt.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (3 replies)

So Not guilty?

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Acquitted =/= Not Guilty

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

It does in court.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Yes, a not guilty verdict.

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

Hung jury. All 12 jurors have to agree and come to a unanimous verdict for not guilty or for guilty. So I think it likely that there'll be a hung jury and a re-trial at some later date. Which will be even more of a shit show.

Such a pity the Scottish law verdict of 'not proven' is not available here in Victoria. Which basically means We know you done it but there's no evidence.

I do think the r/deathcapdinner mob (and I chose that word deliberately) need to be reminded of the basic human right of being innocent until proven guilty.

abc article on the state of play rn

tone212_@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Not guilty. I do think she did it but the evidence / case against her isnโ€™t strong enough.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

Yeah, I reckon this as well. There's enough room for doubt. But the astounding amount of lies and possible lies is just mental. I have so many questions!

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I think she wanted to make them ill but not kill. There's no evidence to say she intended on killing.

r/DeathCapDinner are gonna lose their shit if it doesn't come back guilty. ๐Ÿฟ

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I will absolutely cook up some popcorn before venturing on that sub if it comes back not guilty.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

๐Ÿ˜‚

They think she's some sort of sociopathic mastermind imbecile and really she's a housewife who made a major boo boo and tried to back peddle her way out of trouble. It's not really that deep.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

I'm predicting a hung jury.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y

Hoping for guilty, realistically think there's a good chance of not guilty. I haven't followed it in detail but it just seems like there's enough room for doubt...

Either way, Erin Patterson is never going to live a normal life ever again after this

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (3 replies)

I too think she's guilty, or a little bit guilty. She'll get off because of something something imo.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Is it too late for Vera to step in?

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I'm watching you pet.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

Now we're getting somewhere

Duenan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Guilty I think.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y (10 replies)

I made this for breakfast yesterday. Iโ€™m not sure what to call it. Slow cooked marinated lamb, fried onion, and scrambled egg on pita with chilli sauce. It needed something to wake up the flavour. I like chilli sauce, but it was slightly overpowering and made the dish one dimensional.

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Worcestershire sauce would be my go to rather than chilli. Complex, tangy and not heavy on the tongue. But then I am going through a love affair with worcestershire sauce rn so don't mind me.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I donโ€™t really reach for that as often as I should.

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Itโ€™s delicious on sautรฉed spinach leaves

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Yass!

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I'd call that hangover food. Go with garlic sauce next time or hummus or tahini.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Noted. The garlic sauce could give it the punch it needs.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

For sure.

Hummus works with scrambled eggs and lamb in lebanese dishes and so does tahini sauce. Gives the dishes a kinda creamy taste.

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

Jeez I really need to up my breakfast game.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

A good sprinkle of zaatar and dollop of sour cream or yoghurt. Some cherry tomatoes would give a bit of sweetness.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Definitely will try that. Thanks

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y (10 replies)

Happy EOFY to all those who celebrate ๐Ÿ™

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (3 replies)

There will not be time to celebrate. Just sayin.

Have been saving a very upmarket choc bunny from Easter to eat tonight when all the shenanigans of EOFY are over (FINALLY!!!). May indulge in a few champers too.

Then all the stuff that our clients have been saving up 'for the new FY' will hit on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Pray for me.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I will pray for you. Please pray for me as I have another 19 hours to work over the next 36.

Aaaaaargh.

But I'm taking a day of Toil whether they like it or not.

kudra@aus.social · 5 pts · 1y (3 replies)

@Force_majeure123 @YarraByte I feel like I have noticed much less EOFY sales and offers than usual...

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

They all suck nowadays anyway

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

there are fewer stores

kudra@aus.social · 4 pts · 1y

@Seagoon_ hmm good point!!

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

I am celebrating after finally sorting out my budget/finances for the end of year yesterday. I used the "I'm in the middle of moving" excuse to push things off for far too long.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Happy EOFYS. May you nab a good bargain today.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y (5 replies)

I watched Trainwreck: Poop Cruise and it confirmed to me how precious Americans are. The ship is in a state of anarchy and they were more concerned about how long they can hold out for before they needed to shit into a biohazard bag.

The highlight for me was when a crew member described the state of the dunnies. (Not verbatim) "There was poo. A layer of toilet paper. Poo. Toilet paper. Poo. It was like a lasagne.

I couldn't stop laughing. 5/5 hobbits

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (2 replies)

We saw that, definitely 5/5 hobbits. How about the people taking Imodium so they didnโ€™t pooโ€ฆfor days?! Itโ€™s put me off ever going on a cruise, though

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

If it's any consolation, that cruise caused many of the big cruises to install back up generators onboard their ships ๐Ÿ˜‚ and have secondary engine rooms!

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Yeah. I would've found a dark corner somewhere instead. (Not in my cabin though)

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

At bush doofs we used to call using a poo filled port-a-loo as "Mr Whippy" due to the stack.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Fuck ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y

5 hours to go. Urghhhh Apparently I'm going to have a PT issue in the morning that will lead to me sleeping in an extra hour!

How fortuitous!

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (20 replies)

I have BBQ chicken pizza planned for dinner tonight and I'm really looking forward to it. What does everyone else have on the dinner menu?

tone212_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Don't have much time for making dinner tonight - I have those fresh chicken kievs from Aldi so going to air fry that with a side of veggies (some broccolini that needs using up) and maybe some chips too.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Kiev is always a good choice. I need to restock my freezer with a few crumbed options like that for when I need something quick and easy.

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Leek, bacon, barley and lentil soup, yum! And thereโ€™ll be leftovers which is a bonus

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I was with you for the first two ingredients, the last two I'm not fond of. But if you are not an anti-legumist like I am it would be a very nice soup. And it is definitely the weather for it.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Stir fry duck with noodles.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (2 replies)

That sounds good, send me a small taste when it's ready?

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Korean Chicken Sandos, mmm!

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Thai red curry chicken and veg that I made yesterday. I use the Ayam curry pastes, they are pretty good for a quick meal with good flavour hit.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

I have some of their pastes to make chicken curry tomorrow - I can't remember which one I picked now, I think I might have gone yellow curry. I haven't had one for ages and am looking forward to it.

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Sorry not sorry. I am celebrating surviving this financial year (and our team coming out in good shape) and taking a break from visiting fam with a cheeky dinner for one at a little seafood joint.Crispy skinned Barra in the way...OUTSIDE... listening to the ocean. Oh tropics you can go get stuffed in February but right now you are pretty special.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

The wholesome and melodious root veg and bean soup that I cooked the beans for yesterday. Just got home; it's time to chop up the veg, saute the onions and bung everything else in for an hour or something until it all comes together. Lunch sorted for the next 4 days easily.

Pizza sounds tempting, but I shan't cave in until I get my tax return or get paid, whichever happens first.

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Oh that sound awesome. Recipe or is it vibes?

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Vibes. I once had something similar at an aunt's and sort of made it based off my memory of that

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Nothing. I had a curry for lunch and then work bought us pizzas so I had a couple slices. Now I don't need food!

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I dunno ๐Ÿ˜ญ

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

My recent go to "dunno" meal has been either a cheese or a vegemite toastie.

Local Indian restaurant. I ordered a lemon soda. Surprise ingredient of asafetida! mmm, as young mr seagoon observed , fart lemon drink

but all the rest was delicious, especially the garlic naan ๐Ÿ’จ

Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

I have an Aldi lasagna that needs to be dealt with over tonight and tomorrow.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

So close now.

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (4 replies)

I've had the Postman Pat theme tune banging around in my head all afternoon. He seems quite content. A nice cat, a cruisy stable job, friendly people. I envy him

underwatermagpies@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Indeed, he's a really happy man. And now it's in my head too.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (2 replies)

wtf,I've been singing that song all week but with new lyrics

Bill and Ted, Bill and Ted, Bill and Ted and their friend Pat

because Bill and Ted really want to be tradie cats, they can go in the tradie van and go on adventures and they can help with all the jobs

TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

I think we as a group need to rig the voting for the Word of the Year. 'Tradie Cats' is imo a very good candidate.

Lots of youtube stuff - I recommend Ozgeology for a local slant on this stuff. Melbourne based too. At least until he 'discovered' a river of gold underneath Melbourne. But seriously, this channel fits with everything I've learned so far about this town and continent.

All this stuff used to be called geography - but they don't teach that anymore as it was considered boring and irrelevant back in the 1990s. I have NEVER agreed with that verdict. Where we are on this planet and how everything works is something I been fascinated by since early youf. It's basic to understanding where we are and what is likely to happen in the future.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Nature is amazing. Never too late to learn, itโ€™s fun discovering new knowledge!

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Well my knowledge of it is limited to highs and lows and how stupid itโ€™s been one week from another.

Nothing really in-depth though tonightโ€™s low is 3-4 degrees if thatโ€™s of any significance.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

I failed :(

Goodnight all โค๏ธ

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

The pizza is in the oven. The smell is divine.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Nice. I found a couple of forgotten Aldi gratin in the freezer. ๐Ÿ˜Š

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

My kitchen smells like earth and hippies. This soup is so nutritious it's veering into self-righteous territory. I slapped some crispy chilli oil on top to put it in its place.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (11 replies)

Has anyone tried out this butter chicken sauce from Aldi?

I don't know if it's spicy because it has chilli powder listed in its ingredients.

https://www.aldi.com.au/product/asia-specialities-indian-simmer-sauce-butter-chicken-500g-000000000365227002

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

No I haven't but the chances of it actually being spicy is like 0%

If on the odd chance you do get a bit of spice and you don't like just add a bit of milk to the end result.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Good tip, I;ll have to remember that but won't it chnage the way it tastes if I added milk to it?

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Nope. 1/4 of a cup should do it. Chilli is the 13 ingredient on the list. Very unlikely to be spicy hot. Butter chicken is a starter pack for kids.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Iโ€™d test drive it for you if I could! (I really miss mild Indian food)

But Aldi products get a lot of informal reviews so I recommend having a google around. I found some but not sure about etiquette of linking FB or the other place.

If youโ€™re not a spice fan and unsure whether youโ€™ll like it it might be better to make your own version to avoid ruining anything you put it on. Tinned tomatoes and spice packets are cheap. Or buy it and first try a smear on toast to avoid throwing out a meal.

Otherwise buy a tub of Greek yogurt to mix in or blend with some cheap fruit for a lassi. Yogurt and milk in general have a cooling effect because the fat insulates your mouth from the spicy oils, and Greek yogurt tends to be creamier and fattier.

If youโ€™re worried about it not being spicy enoughโ€ฆ I donโ€™t know, never had that problem but you can add heat.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I might try one bottle and see how it goes, I hope it's really mild as I don't like spicy foods.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

You might like chip shop curry or Japanese curry. Iโ€™ve never had either but theyโ€™re said to be milder

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (2 replies)

2% spices is quite a lot - might actually have a punch. Haven't ever tried it though. If looking for a very mild sauce, try the Chicken Tonight range or similar with added spice (by you). That is, fry up protein, add spices to taste or not, then add sauce from bottle and simmer as per instructions. If doing something like this, I use garam masala rather than chilli and that works very well. Plenty of taste but you still have tastebuds after eating it.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Would it be too much of a stretch to assume that it's 2% divided between 7 spices in equal amounts?

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Probably not equal amounts - ingredients are generally listed in descending order of quantity.

My hair has grown to that annoying length where it pokes me in the eyes. Too short to tie it all back without still having a mop at the front, and clipping it back... I need more clips than I possess due to it's wavy chaotic nature.

But I don't want to cut it, I want to grow it out longer, so here I am whinging lol

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Fringe whinge is real. There's nothing to do at this stage but tough it out, you can do it!

Been there. No fun. I haaate having hair falling in my face or into my ears or bunching up at the back of my neck. Also have wavy hair that's a pain to control. I found in Kmart a circular hair control device - its a circle of zigzag plastic an inch or so wide and a bit stretchy, big enough to go around one's whole head. I think its intended to hold back one's hair with an Alice band over the top of it. Put it on around the neck, then slide it up and it holds hair back from the forehead and up off the neck. Front of hair is held sleek and smooth, then the rest of one's hair runs riot behind it. Fairly comfy to wear, and you can put a bike helmet or hat over it if need be. Game changer for growing out hair past the annoying stage. And you can cover it with a ribbon or similar if you don't like the look of it.

the priceline version

I haven't heard "Alice band" for years; that just brought back a rush of emotions! It's what I grew up calling it. Inherited from my mum's generation and the slightly older-fashioned English she learnt in a heavily colonial system.

Comes from the Tenniel illustrations to Alice in Wonderland. Iconic.

I didn't know you could still get these!

I've just made peace with the fact that my fringe is permanent now. If I couldn't deal with growing it out in lockdown, I'm stuck with it.

I have a hair type thatโ€™s difficult to get dry/takes a long time even after being towel dried and combed, so the cheap Kmarget hairdryers overheat and shut down while half my head is still wet. Often repeatedly.

With EOFY sales on can anyone recommend a decent hairdryer that still has a reasonable budget? Iโ€™m thinking a basic workhorse under $50. No special features are really needed.

(Not really in the market for brushes or tools or things for a styling blow dry, I just need a dryer that will let me rough dry my roots with my fingers so my scalp isnโ€™t sitting damp for a long time.)

I would try something like this, on sale at Myer for $50. Reputable hair care brand, salon motor.

Thanks, itโ€™s on the pricey side but might last. Iโ€™ve added it to the basket to think on

Dammit, I thought Murderbot had finished and was happily bingeing it, but there's two more episodes to go. I'm so spoiled with media these days... I don't want to wait! But I guess I will, it's just two more episodes. It's a fun little show, and there's something I really like about the opening credits.

Same with Poker Face, S02 is 12 EPs.

Oh yeah! I meant to watch that - S1 was highly entertaining. Lots of tv to catch up on now that I'm free.
