I do love that Aotearoa has incredible avian diversity.

On one hand, we have Kea parrots who are smarter than most of the human tourists they like pranking and stealing from.

And on the other side of the spectrum we have the kakapo: literally the dumbest bird in existence.

Such amazing biodiversity lol

Kea is fucking awesome.

The video of them peeling rubber off the police car is funny, also the video of them moving the orange road cone into the middle of the road, so the cars stop, so they have more cars to fuck with is epic.

the flightless ones on islands seems to dumbed down compared with thier flying relatives, i think its because they have no natural predators, they also have lower metabolic rates because they dont need to have energetic flight muscles for flight.

I first heard about them in Last Chance to See where they are described not only as a bird who has forgotten how to fly, but they have forgotten that they have forgotten how to fly.

So if you startle one of the poor dears, they're liable to climb a tree and fling themselves out of it.

It looks like it is humping that guy's head, but they would never hump somebody's head, would they?

If you can easily pass for part of a plant, it's pretty darn effective. Especially if you live where most plants stay green all year. Except it doesn't work on invasive ferrets, stoats, and rats who eat the eggs.
