Faced with a souring economy, the president could change course, but he prefers to fire statisticians and to lie brazenly to the public.

This should be expected. It's his answer to all bad news, just don't look at it. Don't test for covid, don't give weather services access to satellite info, ignore economic indicators and make up your own numbers. The pattern is clear. This asshole has lived such a privileged life that substituting reality with his own vision has worked out for him thus far. Let's see if it keeps working.

I'll remind you that it's not just him. This has been a GOP talking point, out loud where everyone can hear, since the GWB administration.

And if this unarmed official (widely assumed to be Karl Rove) is saying this out loud to a journalist, you can assume they've been saying it privately for decades

What the hell is up with these academic terms for "LYING?" The party of Jesus routinely doesn't follow the commandments.
twack@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 1y
The party of Jesus probably couldn't even tell you the ten commandments without looking them up. That's partially because several of them are loosely the same idea, but also most Christians are practicing both religion and politics based on vibes. They aren't based in facts or books, bible or otherwise.

How do you know the official doesn't have arms?
dhork@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Heh was supposed to be unnamed. I bet Rove was packing the whole time, too

Many conservatives only care about in-group and emotions. They don't all justify it with as many words

Now see, this is a mistake Hitler didn't make, the economy kept getting better and better. Trump isn't a very good fascist.

Some say the worst. People tell him all the time, possibly the worst ever.

I doubt if people around him tell him anything they dont think he wants to hear.

Like a phantom: a thing of pure imagination used by grifters.

Next time they’ll just make the numbers up beforehand

That's why they're shutting down all the sources of credible numbers.

Hasn't it been cooling for a while? When does cooling become a recession?
chuckleslord@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1y
2 consecutive quarters of gdp contraction. The definition of a recession.
cabb@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 1y
That's not the only condition for a recession, several indicators are used in determining if there is a recession. This was relevant recently in the US as GDP dropped for 2 consecutive quarters and no recession was declared.
