Gets rid of the browser AI, and also gets rid of FireFox spyware telemetry & ads, installs uBlock origin, and generally is the browser we all thought FireFox was supposed to be:

Yes but it wouldn’t exist without Firefox

I notice they don't have an android version. Any insight why?

fum@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1y

Closest thing I've found for Android is IronFox https://gitlab.com/ironfox-oss/IronFox

squirrel@discuss.tchncs.de · 7 pts · 1y

IronFox is nice on Android

Can't you disable all this in the settings page?

Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I don't believe so. The very first one is synced with one of the options in the settings menu, but it doesn't look like any of the rest are.

Feyd@programming.dev · 12 pts · 1y

Hmm I'm not sure what options these flip under the covers, but disabling both of them appears to be sufficient to disable the features.

This is great! Now to figure out how to do this by policy. I've been banging my head into so many walls during the past 2 days, trying to figure out if Mozilla has an .admx that will allow me to turn this off for devices via CSP, or via custom OMA-URI.

Creat@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 1y (1 reply)

There used to be an admx, we're using it (to enable Firefox to use system cert store and the like). I hope it's updated quickly after new releases, but I never had an urgent need for that until now. Guess I'm also finding this out on Monday...

codenamekino@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

I found this, but I'm still working out the oma-uri stuff. Very much not my forte, but maybe this will help you.

Which are the relevant platform(s) and version here? I don't seem to have the .chat variables.

With Firefox on Android I only had:

browser.ml.enable = false

Firefox 141.0.3 (Build# 2016106991)

Yeah it was a subtle joke about how people thought that the ML in lemmy.ml was "Marxist-Leninist". It was really because Mali had cheap (free?) domain names for a time. The political beliefs were just a happy coincidence.
