The preview is fetched from lemmy.world which is based in Germany and so Youtube serves German pages.

Add to that the not deselectable auto-translation Youtube is doing.

I hate it so much.
Recently even many audio-tracks are soulless Al voices instead of the original track.
I am bilingual, you pea-brained video-platform-software!

FDroid - Pipe Pipe

Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de · 5 pts · 337d

You mean Newpipe?
Doesn't make it better. .. Sure, I can at least set my standard language to English at least.
But now it will translate the German videos instead...
Or am I missing a setting?

This pisses my partner off. She became quite fluent in English over the past few years, but the headlines and descriptions all get auto-translated to German anyways. Unlike every other platform, there is no "Never translate language XYZ"-option, which Google Translate OTOH does offer.

And just swapping her account language to English UK or so doesn't help: Then German videos get translated. Same problem in reverse. Seems the Google managers are unable to imagine someone speaking 2+ languages....

I hate it doubly so After training YT to not show me stuff from my homeland, suddenly I started getting hit in the face with my language -.-'

BTW: The box at the bottom:
Not a video description.

It's just an advertisement for Youtube...

Whatever causes this, it's a part of Lemmy; I get the same thing no matter what I use to browse and I don't even use Boost.

It's like that for everyone, everywhere...

But why are you seeing ads in Lemmy?

caseofthematts@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 337d (3 replies)

If you use the free version of some Lemmy apps, you get ads.

givesomefucks@lemmy.world · -4 pts · 337d (2 replies)

Then why use apps?

arudesalad@piefed.ca · 7 pts · 337d (1 reply)

You are in the community for an app, everyone here just prefers boost and is willing to deal with the ads/donate to the dev to remove them because it means they get to use boost.

And I was trying to find out why, but that doesn't seem like it will be productive
