Next up, Dennis Kirby

everett@lemmy.ml · 37 pts · 327d (5 replies)

You joke, but

Shigeru Miyamoto stated that "Kirby" was chosen partly in honor of American lawyer John Kirby, who defended Nintendo in the Universal City Studios, Inc. v. Nintendo Co., Ltd. case

idiomaddict@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 327d (1 reply)

lol, what a dubious honor. “Are you saying I suck?”

neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 326d

More importantly, you suck the most.

John Kirby (the attorney) died in 2019

I wonder if Kirby liked Kirby.

Good. Reggie was a charismatic leader that pushed against Nintendo Japan to be more consumer friendly. This man did nothing and had zero presence. I wonder what he was even doing there.

Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world · 29 pts · 327d

But his name was Bowser! You know.....like the Nintendo character!

Yeah, past the first week of funny headlines I never thought of him again.

Devon Pritchard will take on the role. She currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Revenue, Marketing and Consumer Experience.

Profitability. That's not reassuring.

inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 327d

Nope. Not at all.

tahoe@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 327d

Unsurprising, but still disappointing

dukemirage@lemmy.world · -8 pts · 327d

Oh no someone with business and management experience takes on a business management role in a business that runs solely to acquire money. Nintendo‘s pricing policies are already maxed for profitability, anyway.

inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world · 44 pts · 327d

I think he definitely left his EA mark on the company.

xxce2AAb@feddit.dk · 26 pts · 327d (4 replies)

His... legal name was Bowser?

magic_lobster_party@fedia.io · 14 pts · 327d

Yes

BootLoop@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 326d (2 replies)

Just wait until you hear what they did to Gary Bowser.

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 5 pts · 326d

So long, Gary Bowser!

Pritchard (bowsers successor) holds a doctorate of law from Gonzaga and a bachelors in biological sciences from Kansas state...Id speculate that Satoru Shibata will do more of the actual management given his continuing role as managing executive officer and corporate director at Nintendo co Ltd, his previous roles as president of Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of Australia, and this new position at NOA concurrent with his NCL duties, but it's really funny if unsurprising to me that Nintendo chose a fucking lawyer as their Chief operations officer.

mesamunefire@piefed.social · 13 pts · 327d

Wow he didn't last too long.

SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works · 11 pts · 327d

I guess Mario or Luigi jumped on his head twice already. Bowser knew the gig was up, and got out while he could

thatradomguy@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 326d

The next CEO:

I was hoping the next CEO would be something like Walt Wario or something.

I'm certain it'll be someone's uncle! Seems everyone has one what works there.

Pritchard will take on the role.

About time! What, did she get stuck in an airduct on the way there?

Not likely at all, this restructuring was made to give NCL more control over NoA, Pritchard is there to run the ship, the new CEO of NoA, Satoru Shibata, is the one you should be looking at.

I'm not sure if they're concerned with Saturo Shibata directly, it's just that under Reggie, Nintendo of America pushed hard for stuff like free Wii Sports and cheaper prices (which worked great, making the Wii a huge success), while the Nintendo Japan was of the opinion that nothing should ever be given away for free.

Under Bowser, Nintendo of America fell in line behind Japan. Culminating in stuff like the welcome tour for the Nintendo Switch 2, something that is just a tech demo of the device you just spent $400+ on, costing $10.

Having Saturo Shibata as CEO, it seems this will get worse, not better, since Nintendo Japan is excerting more control over NoA.

Point of order: Wii Sports was not free. The price of the game was added to the price of the Wii, but since you couldn't get a Wii without Wii Sports, people just assumed that was the base price.

OK, so which of the Koopalings is next in line? My money’s on Ludwig!

Given my general distain for modern Nintendo, I’d have no qualms in using AI to generate a Succession parody using the Koopa Kids, if only I knew how… 😅

SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 326d

If they want a CEO with some balls, they'd choose Lemmy.
