It's great adding information when asking for help with trouble shooting, but I'm sure the dev would love to know if you've tested if it is causing the problem, or if it can be ruled out.
Was about to write a post asking what the beverage dispenser in the authors workspace provided.
Then my brain snapped out of vacation mode and remembered that I mainly use var (mainly C# backend dev) which is effectively the same, and I've never had an issue with it.
Now I'm left torn and confused, and in work mode on vacation... What a day, and it's not even 08:30.
I've read two of his books (clean code and clean coder), and there are things I agree with, absolutely. There are also things I vehemently disagree with.
The main value I gained from them was by reflecting on the scenarios and his ideas on approaching them. Afterwards I made up my own mind on the subject.
They contained a good deal of subjects that I, as a very junior dev at the time, hadn't even begun to consider, and by being aware of them, I could more easily approach them when encountered in the wild.
There's also a historical aspect of knowing what has inspired, affected, or motivated, other ideas and approaches.
Take it for what it is, one person's opinions. Some you'll probably agree with, some you won't. Just because someone is out was regarded highly in a field does not make their word gospel. It makes it worth thinking about and forming your own opinion though.
I would have liked to know what the gap is structured by job as well as gender.
Having a discrepancy based on choice of profession has to be approached differently than a discrepancy based on gender as the determining factor (which is the point the report makes, as far as I saw).
Making professions have a more representative amount of workers should be in everyone's interest, not just gender wise, but also culturally and socially, etc, and needs to make the underrepresented groups want to get the education required, in addition to all the other factors such as work culture.
Ofc this is just my viewpoint from a country where we're so incredibly privileged that most anyone can get a higher education. I'm not even going to try to speak for countries with different cultural and social norms and structures.
Still, I find saying "EU" as a blanket term, and presenting the data based only on gender as a factor provides little value, as it makes the data so over generalized it's hard to find anything to act on or improve. Rather it just adds another data point to be upset about in a long list of them.
I wish instead of getting the general "shit is bad" report, we'd get something that could be used to further the discussion into clear action in specific places. However, to do that it's not sufficient to say "in the EU", might as well say "in the Americas".
I'm sure I've overlooked something in my reading of and responding to the report. If so, it was done out of ignorance more than anything else, and without malice. Don't listen to weird ramblings on the internet.

I'm curious how this would prevent the need for importing gas to generate the electricity. None of my heat pumps run exclusively on wind and hydropower.
