Well, eating > restaurants > a list with potential promoted entries.
I really don’t think the intention of integrating this “intelligence” into Facebook is explicitly to make us dumber. I think the only real purpose is to supercharge marketing. Eroding the mental capacity of functional human beings is just a happy little accident.
The problem I think is that using Facebook as a large part of your training data will inevitably lead to a lot of dumb stuff like this, since most of the people on Facebook are pretty dumb. This is a reason reddit is such a valuable dataset to train AI on. It has a lot of nonsense too but also many intelligent people use reddit. There is noise for sure, but the overall level of intelligence that arises out of those datasets is much higher. The issue is that it's a very biased dataset, and biased intelligence might be worse than lack of intelligence in many cases. Reddit has giant holes and biases in its intelligence on average, but Facebook has little actual intelligence at all. What this leads to is more intelligent AI but it also believes a lot of nonsense that is common in more leftist or liberal spaces. It just tends to be much higher quality overall.
A good example of this. An AI trained on reddit data might be far better at answering scientific questions, but fail horribly when diagnosing mental illness, because reddit tends to reflect the scientific consensus on psychology, where the people on Facebook on average might actually exceed many professional psychologists in understanding the human mind. The sheer amount of schizo nonsense of Facebook though means that this will almost certainly be drowned in noise. AI can also get in legal trouble for having this looser and more intuitive understanding of medical conditions which is also an unfortunate reality it has to contend with. They don't want to get sued, and even if the mainstream scientific ideas on the mind are almost entirely utter nonsense, legally it's a far more defensible position if they were to get sued.
A rightwing adaptation of A Modest Proposal for the Trump era might replace the Irish babies with illegal immigrants (think Alligator Alcatraz meets Soylent Green). The one snag might be that it would have to be Certified Fetus-Free, to placate the pro-life crowd.
Ok. Every accusation is a confession with the Republicans. Here me out.
They scream about gays and then get caught in an airport bathroom being gay.
They scream about Democratic child trafficking rings ... then there is Trump and Epstien island.
The Republicans have a nearly perfect history of accusing the other side of doing things that they get caught doing.
So when they say "they" (the democrats) are eating babies ...
(I've genuinely always had a curiosity about cannibalism, would love to try it someday if its legal somewhere, not because I give af about the law but bc I don't wanna imagine the trouble you'd be in for illegally eating a human being if caught - too risky)
And eating a fetus might be like that egg dish in south east Asia, balut I think its called.

Yep. The true power of AI. Gobble data without getting a brain involved.

Whadyoumean, the AI connected the dots between eating and restaurants. That's advanced reasoning!

Nah, Zuckerberg was among the tech oligarchs kissing Trumps ring at that recent meeting. Making people dumber is not an accidental side effect.

It is to sloppify everything and rot our brains.

How long ago was that last a thing? I haven't watched ads seasoned with media in many years, but that one seems ancient, like ~2 decades.
