Why the fuck do they have to be gay? Like why do gay people always have to be blamed for the hate? Just because there's been a few closeted pieces of shit doesn't mean every fascist is.
oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 17 pts · 326d
Yeah people like them just want to be homophobic, and extremely likely transphobic and queerphobic, but want to look like they aren’t a complete waste of oxygen. Fuck those people, utter assholes
fartographer@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 326d
Every fascist is a closeted piece of shit, but it has nothing to do with sexuality. They all know deep in their hearts that they're fascists, but they act and claim that they're not the fascist, it's everyone else who's a fascist. And they resort to violence anytime someone points out that they're a fascist, because everyone was raised to understand that fascists are weak, scared, little cosplay strongpeople, and their only defense is offense.
The closeted homophobia could be a contributing factor for some, but the closeted "fasciphobia" is very real for almost all of them. There are those few who proudly call themselves fascists, and they strike fear into the hearts of every closeted fasciphobe who are not yet willing to be seen shoulder to shoulder with an openly fascist pile of crap.

I think this is more accurate a year ago. Also let's not lend queer language to them.
fartographer@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 326d
Is "closeted" queer language? I've never found consistent etymology or history of the word, but language is obviously driven by society. I really hope I haven't been offending my friends throwing around that word all William-Nilliam... I'm not the most tapped-in person to culture, and even then, I'm unbelievably slow to catch on.
vinceman@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 6 pts · 326d

Ya a quick read not too many other things have ever really used the language in such a consistent way.

‘Hate only exists because of closeted queers’ is a fucked up sentiment. Most bigots are bigots for reasons that have nothing to do with their sexuality. Look at who’s running the government, you don’t think there’s a financial and political incentive to be a bigot right now? Straight people aren’t all upright paragons of morality who would never hurt people out of hate. I cannot emphasize enough how regressive it is to blame social problems on queers, no matter how you dress it up.
If you want to have a discussion about the psychological effects of being in the closet and try to relate that to hurting others, then it’s important to first understand that most closeted people hurt themselves if they hurt anyone, and in general aren’t fucking fascists. The only group that voted less for Trump than queer people was black women.
This whole sentiment that Trump appointees and party members are all f*ggots in the closet is based entirely in confirmation bias. You don’t remember the ones that are straight because that’s unremarkable to you.

Oh I hate Fords, must be because I secretly love Fords! What a shitty take that you literally can't apply to a single actual situation. Name 10 fascist you think are closeted, then we'll talk about the homophobia you just performed by assuming people are queer.

Imperfect argument? You read the other comments in this thread and then commented "hate only exists because of closeted queers". Maybe accept mild criticism when you make bigoted statements.

Nobody ever had to say keep Portland weird. We all trust them to keep themselves weird
mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 14 pts · 325d
Yeah, Austin started using it because of the immense amount of external pressure to conform to Texas’ otherwise rural conservative mindset, plus the internal pressure from the (again, conservative) state legislature being located there. The motto was a rebellion against that pressure. But Portland hasn’t been historically pressured in the same way.

I lived in Seattle for a while and got used to the nudity, imagine my sadness moving to Arkansas which bans any public nudity "within view" of the opposite sex (hello gay campgrounds) - but last year I saw a lesbian go topless at Pride and I was SO happy! My straight neighbor made it a point to mention how she didn't care for that, and I'm like, it's our event lady, don't come.
ChihuahuaOfDoom@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 325d
Having lived near Seattle most of my life and visiting for any number of festivals, sporting events, visiting family, the zoo, parks, a weekly bocce league, I never once saw a topless woman except for at the solstice parade.

Man, I hate these maps. Sure, it's still shaped like the US, but the states are in totally incorrect places. For example, VA is three states in on this map. Functionality is more important than esthetics.

it's better than trying to see what color one of the tiny northeast states are
id argue it is more functional than a normal map lol

If your balls hang low enough to be caught in the chain, you should always tape them up. Otherwise, just keep the seat lubed and it’s not a bad ride.

My uncle is a Republican, always has been. His views have only become truly toxic since Obama was elected and a propaganda/hate machine that had been slowly building momentum dropped a gear and went over the horizon. So for less than a 5th of his life he has been an asshole on Facebook and voted Republican and you think he and everyone like him, in the entire country, needs to be exterminated?

Then yes.

So I am being called a Nazi apologist for asking why my sort of maga uncle should be put against the wall and shot. Am I not a pure enough leftist because I know and care about people that have been swept up by the propaganda machine, and hope for an outcome for them besides extermination?
It's really disheartening to hear the people I would fight for and alongside, those I consider myself aligned with, so callously and vehemently wish for the death of such a significant portion of our countrymen.
Harder still is to have my commitment to something better for our country than blatant capitalist corruption questioned because I don't blindly wish violence on the people I disagree with. You should consider yourself very lucky if you don't have any family or friends that are seemingly lost to the hate machine, and have some compassion for the rest of us that aren't so fortunate.
If somebody has something better to say that "Nazi Apologist", and has some idea of how we might begin mass deradicalization, I am very interested in that conversation. If all you want to do is downvote me and sling an easy insult without considering what I am bearing my heart to say, that's fine, it's what I have come to expect.
