I read this as 1 kilodollar.

TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 73 pts · 309d

that's entirely correct tbh

thevoidzero@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 309d (3 replies)

units '1 kilodollar' 'dollar' outputs 1000. units is a unit conversion program I use.

tostiman@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 309d (1 reply)

Do you really need a conversion program for that?

thevoidzero@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 309d

No, but I wanted to test if it'd be considered valid by the program. I think the algorithm just does kilo _ = 1000 x _

jbk@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 308d

til thanks!

usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca · 15 pts · 309d (5 replies)

Is that not what the k represents when people use it as a short-hand for "thousand"?

RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz · 9 pts · 308d (1 reply)

I think people understand that k = 1000 but don't realize where it comes from.

As an aside, I really like talking about mega euros. Five million euros? Nah, five mega euros

jlow@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 308d

It's Greek apparently: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilo-

fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 308d (1 reply)

It's not shorthand for thousand, it IS thousand.

kk=M -> 10^3*10^3=10^6
kM=G -> 10^3*10^6=10^9
kkk=G= "a billion"

MATH IS WITH ME, BILLIONAIRES ARE MEMBERS OF THE kkk!!!!!

yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 308d

That's what I love about unit prefixes. They're just numbers!

Like, how many m³ is 1 km³?

1 km³ = 1 (km)³ = 1 k³m³ = 1 G(m³) = 1,000,000,000 m³.

MisterFrog@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 306d

It's just that usually the $ unit comes before the number.

Which I accept, but don't like for the inconsistency with how we write units after the number.

Reminds me of a Fear Factor event my Mormon church group had in which one “disgusting” feat for boys was to shave part of their legs. That particular feat was cancelled when some boys who didn't subscribe to traditional “manly” values happily started shaving their legs for points. Unlike swallowing goldfishes, eating grasshoppers, or attempting to drink a gallon of milk, leg shaving was a step too far for church leaders.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 33 pts · 308d

was your bishop unfamiliar with swimmers and bicycling?

scratch that, they were balls deep in an mlm i forget

Badabinski@kbin.earth · 13 pts · 308d

I've lived in Utah for like 30 years and I can picture this so clearly in my head.

Jankatarch@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 304d (1 reply)

Fear factor event for Mormon priests is just watching guys choose to shave leg hair over eating live insects raw.

baltakatei@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 304d

The insects were dried protein snacks from a Boy Scout's wilderness guide training; they were like salted sunflower seeds with the shell still on. It was the Wal-Mart goldfishes that were alive and swallowed Attack-on-Titan-style.

LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 73 pts · 309d

Absolutely. I'd pay anything to wear that for a week

cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone · 66 pts · 309d

i'm in year 8 of transition i basically did pay $1k to wear that

Xerxos@lemmy.ml · 29 pts · 308d (5 replies)

I'm neither trans, nor would I look good in that (fat, old, bald, hairy, ugly man), but for that amount of money I'd do it. It's just clothes, who cares?

relativestranger@feddit.nl · 5 pts · 308d

sign me up. can i do it every week i need an extra $1000? (which would be, like, every week)

gray5911@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 0 pts · 308d (3 replies)

soooooo 20 dollars is 20 dollars, right? lol

Xerxos@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 308d (2 replies)

Dude, 1k/week is "I don't have to work anymore" money

Whelks_chance@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 308d

Is it just for a single week or is it recurring?

gray5911@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 308d

understandable, I am also in financial trouble

ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml · 24 pts · 309d

Long sleeves in this heat? I'll be dead by Thursday.

You have a deal

homura1650@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 308d (4 replies)

Serious question: does anyone know where I can get that dress? I don't need the money; just the dress.

QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 308d (1 reply)

I'd prefer if the skirt and top weren't connected. I have so many different shirts I wear with my skirts. The top looks soo cute

homura1650@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 308d

Good news! The top is actually a separate piece. https://www.amazon.com/Prints-Casual-Cotton-Dresses-Spring/dp/B079K73S9R

Although not quite as cute as I thought.

KernelTale@programming.dev · 2 pts · 308d

Fuck it I am buying a dress. (Probably not this one but still)

Insist on peeling the orange myself, fail, cry.

Nyadia@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 20 pts · 309d

I uh, might have seen this post back during the pandemic and bought this fit with my stimulus money (it doesn't look as cute as the picture makes it out to be cause the skirt of the dress doesn't flare out like that and looks rather boxy, however the top is separate from the dress and you can wear it as a crop top and pair it with another dress/skirt and it looks better that way imo)

BoxOfFeet@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 308d (3 replies)

Even though I would only be at work 3 of those days, I would still say the answer is no. $1k is not enough for me to dress that way for a whole week. Maybe $10k.

There is a ton of stuff I would do for $1k. You want two days of my engineering and CAD skills? You want me to go to the hospital to tell people they're loved ones have died? You want me to wipe down the loads in the steam room (in a tyvek suit and gloves)? Those are all things I could do for $1K. But I'm not wearing that.

piccolo@sh.itjust.works · 23 pts · 308d (2 replies)

$1k/w is what i earn doing my job... your telling me i can take a week off and hide in my room and all i have to get my fat ass in some clothing with no obligations to leave my house? Where do i sign up?

RedRibbonArmy@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 308d (1 reply)

Exactly, just let me call out sick.

gray5911@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 308d (2 replies)

i mean, i am not gay but 1k$ would help me a lot (does the price doubles as i wear it for one more week?)

ignotum@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 308d

123 trillion usd in the world, assuming the 1k doubles every week (1, 2, 4, 8 etc) you'd only need to wear it for 37 weeks or ~0.7 years before you'd be richer than the rest of... earth

Would you do it?

Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it · 2 pts · 308d

I'd like it and i am not straight

gerryflap@feddit.nl · 9 pts · 309d (3 replies)

Would I have multiple sets? Wearing the same clothes for a week would not be very hygienic

cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 308d (2 replies)

I could, like, wash it with just one, but I'd want to take it off to shower.

gerryflap@feddit.nl · 1 pts · 308d (1 reply)

Yeah but what to wear when it's in the washing machine or drying. I'd need at least 2 sets :3

cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 307d

Underwear, nothing

Hand wash if no machine in-unit

djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 309d

1k is still 1k though.

RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz · 6 pts · 308d (2 replies)

I'd do it for that money but I wouldn't feel comfortable tbh

cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 308d

Fredthefishlord@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 307d (2 replies)
