The white liberal must rid himself of the notion that there can be a tensionless transition from the old order of injustice to the new order of justice. That's not the quote.

Here it is:

The only thing I have any optimism about in US politics right now is Zohran Mamdani. Just enough optimism to wait until he's mayor before judging him.

I enjoyed the article about Mamdani where a bunch of people from the US are calling his plans "extremist" and "radical", then compared to EU and all his policies are more "you aren't doing this already?"

I don't even live in New York, city or state, but I was more excited for his win than my own Mayor, purely out of hope that this might prove we don't need a bunch of push-over dems trying to please all sides instead of pushing for the changes actually needed.

It's more than just the 8 who voted with the republicans. None of the 8 are up for reelection so the larger group who supported ending the shutdown (including schumer) colluded to have these 8 be sacrificial lambs.
