Chocolate has got to be brand name or I won't eat it

MystValkyrie@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 8 pts · 270d (2 replies)

100%. Tony's Chocolonely can take my money.

LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 270d

Yum. Just ate some of their chocolate last night. :3

LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 270d

Sadly i don't like it. I've tried Valkyrie I've tried! Just tastes awful for me. However, I'd go to war for booja booja they're the best chocolates I've ever had... and vegan

  • Coffee: has to be local, recently roasted
  • Salted Butter: from 100% grass fed cows (Kerrygold or Kirkland’s New Zealand are the easiest to find here)
  • King Arthur flour
RebekahWSD@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 270d (1 reply)

King Arthur is the best flour! I also think it's an employee co-op!

Marketsnodsbury@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 270d

Employee-owned, but yes— love that about them!

Loose leaf tea and dark chocolate. I drink tea every day and drinking something nice puts me in a good mood, so I’m definitely going to do myself that favor. And dark chocolate is a delicious way to prevent unhealthy dessert cravings.

Parmesan cheese over shakey cheese

MystValkyrie@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 6 pts · 270d

I like Skyr instead of Greek yogurt because it's less acidic.

  • Anything that comes from animals. I am actually no fan of organic food at all, but over here it is the easiest way to guarantee at least somewhat better standards of care for the animals. I wish they would feed them GMO tho and iodine supplements were allowed but ok. We rarely buy animal products so paying 16€ for two chicken breasts only hurts like once a year

  • coffee. My coffee is expensive, but my spouse tops it with his caffeine free version of the same brand that is about twice the price.

  • yeast flakes. I am, at this point, basically unable to cook anything savory without adding a shit ton of yeast flakes and smoked paprika to it. Freaking yeast flakes all the way.

  • almond butter. I am going through way too much almond butter and it is fucking expensive. My excuse is that it is still healthier to eat a glass of almond butter within three days than to eat a jar of nutella or chocolate. Banana on corn waffles with almond butter has become my standard sweet snack and makes me feel less gross than candy. Also works well with heartburn.

Man, I sound like some crazy eco chick. I swear nothing in our house has a moon face pattern on it.

Have you tried booja booja chocolate? Vegan and waaayyy better than any animal based chocolates. Trust me I know chocolates

volvoxvsmarla@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 269d (1 reply)

Thank you for the tip! Unfortunately they don't seem to sell in Germany :(

LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 269d

Dammit!

ZDL@lazysoci.al · 1 pts · 267d (3 replies)

Milk chocolate aside (for obvious reasons) how is chocolate not vegan?

LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 267d (2 replies)

A lot of plain chocolate still has milk in

ZDL@lazysoci.al · 1 pts · 266d (1 reply)

That's gotta be cheap crap then. (I don't buy cheap crap anything. :D)

LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 266d

Haha of course

ivanafterall@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 270d

Real butter, miss me with any other bullshit. The fancy "Irish" stuff is even better.

Honeycrisp apples. Jazz apples.

Virgil's root beer. Regular beer.

I've only made them a few times, but if you make crab cakes, it's really nice to have lump or jumbo lump, which is pricey.

Edit: Oh, shit, I didn't see the community. My bad.

LavaPlanet@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 270d

Weird one and not really a splurge, but in comparison there's cheaper options. I found tins of beans, coated in marinades like tahini, vinegarette, and garlic oil etc, in single serves, and it's meant I'm actually eating lunch. I throw them into a bowl, warm them a bit, they're so unbelievably tasty! I throw in some chopped salad veg, I leave prepped in my fridge, and a single serve of rice, and bam! It's delicious! So flavourful and took me 2 minutes to make. They're like $1.60 each and I use 3 per meal. It feels "splurgey" next to the actual price of beans. It's my goal to figure out how to make the dressings, and just open a tin of them. But this has been a game changer, I have kids with disabilities and very high needs and that's made meeting my needs difficult and a main goal. I need easy stuff, that's not bland and gross. Win all around, I feel.

Baked dessert, especially cake. Any sweets that I eat has to be worth the calories.

Amuletta@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 269d

Cheese. Life is too short for mediocre cheese.

twinnie@feddit.uk · 4 pts · 270d

Jacob’s cream crackers.

HurricaneLiz@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 270d

Baby portobello mushrooms to dip in hummus instead of white button mushrooms. Vietnamese food. Dark chocolate.

sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 270d

Anything that is directly delivered to my house. I have so little time, getting to the grocery store is a real challenge - and makes paying for delivery well worth it

MakingWork@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 270d (2 replies)

Why is this a women's topic?? I thought this was c/ cooking for a minute.

MystValkyrie@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 8 pts · 270d

You must be new here. :) If you want to see this post on c/cooking, feel free to post it there! Different communities have different rules for themselves, and this post isn't considered off-topic here. This is a community where women talk about anything non-political, so posts being stereotypical "womens' topics" definitely isn't a requirement.

Chais@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 270d

Because men often don't care what they eat?

nuzzling@feddit.dk · 2 pts · 269d

Chocolate for sure. And lately almond-butter

Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 270d

Souvlaki or gyros
