Weekend to myself. Fam is going down the bellarine (incl. bro/SIL/ankle biter and cat).

Would be expected to organise / cook etc. and I'm just not doing that.

Was hoping to head down this w/e and finish a choon I'm working on w/ the new 'puter and really push the retirement fund (RAM lol), but not worth the stress.

Surprisingly no guilt trip except from ol' girl who'll feel like she has to do all the things. Her food is sorted, the rest can fend for themselves.

Instead gonna day drink and make gyoza / springers for xmas lunch. The best form of therapy.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 241d

Have a blast!

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 241d

Maybe I should day drink. I've only got at home plans today.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 12 pts · 241d (10 replies)

Wore a dress today, my white summer dress with OG Star Wars decals on it. I felt good and nice.

Then I walked past a pub where a group of young bald men had spilled out onto the bike path. They saw me, I saw them, and as soon as I walked past them one guy turned around to face me and made a rather sexual noise right in my ear and face. I called him a "fucking ballsack looking cunt" and to "get out of my face".

It's happened a couple of times, where I've chosen to dress particularly feminine and had something like this happen. It's not everytime, but enough. Like, it's summer and I just want to stay cool, that's my main objective, my only goal when it comes to my summer wardrobe. Really, I think that's all any person is trying to do when they put on a summer dress on a hot humid day. None of us are inviting anyone to make sexual noises at us in public.

I'm just... tired. We're all fucking tired of the behaviour of immature men.

Regardless, I looked fucking cute as shit and I maintained a comfortable temperature lol

Edit: to be clear, it is 100% okay to see a stranger and think "hot damn!", I take issue when it turns into verbal harrassment and onwards.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 241d (1 reply)

Star Wars dress sounds awesome. Ballsack can go be sweaty by himself.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 241d

It's a great dress! Bought it years ago from target, and took the sleeves off, because they were too tight, and re-hemmed them. I need to redo it but it's functional

I'll post a pic later, it's my fav dress :3

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 241d (2 replies)

I stopped dressing sexy at bush doofs for the unwanted attention it bought me. Mostly wasted sleazy gay men on ecstasy. I can take high doses of psychadelics in a chesty bonds bluey even easier than getting dressed up.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 241d (1 reply)

It is interesting that the men/masculine people I have spoken to also have stories of this nature, that sleazy gay men do this - especially on eccies

Some men are so gross I'm sorry you experienced that.

Side note: having a J in my undies is the best no notes

I think the great thing about this place is we can all safely get stuff out in the open and all the advice (yours very much inclusive) is very much welcomed.

It's a really nice corner of the web that you are very much part of :)

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 241d (2 replies)

Thanks. Iโ€™m just aware sometimes I fret and start trying to โ€˜herdโ€™ people. Which could come off as controlling and make some people uncomfortable to share delicate things for fear of feeling judged.

Different people offer different types of support. I'm very solution orientated, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. One of the great gifts I've given myself in the last ten years of my life is to accept that not everyone will like me and that's okay (see a solution for your concerns).

Friendsmas prep is underway for tomorrow. Iโ€™m making a self saucing sticky date pudding, and some extremely buttery garlic bread as a side to main. A cold beer is being had and my 90s + 00s pop/rock playlist is on that Iโ€™ve been blasting this month.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 242d (6 replies)

::: spoiler Cat health I forgot to mention that Melbcat still has her uti. It came back (or rather never left) after a 3 week blast of strong antibiotics that are only meant to be prescribed for 1 week max.

Iโ€™ve been informed that the resistant bacteria could prove dangerous to me as well if they continue giving her antibiotics and theyโ€™ve decided to focus on symptom management.

This fucking sucks. I briefly considered pursuing dodgy alternative medicine but itโ€™s not worth the risks. :::

StudChud@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 242d (5 replies)

That sucks and I'm sorry. UTIs are notorious, I'm not surprised that the vets are concerned about antibiotic resistant bacteria infecting you, zoonotic infections can turn nasty so so quickly.

If you trust your vets, then it's worth following their advice. Otherwise you could try a second opinion.

Do not use alternative medicine for melbcat. Cats have so many intolerances and ingesting something "natural" that may have (at minimum) pesticides on it can lead to neurotoxicity. Trust yourself and your support network (vets, nurses) and if you want another opinion seek another vet.

You got this Melb, it's gonna be alright and you're doing great ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 241d (4 replies)

I know theyโ€™re doing the right thing. Iโ€™m just scared of the infection spreading up to her kidneys.

Theyโ€™re focusing on her comfort and have said if she starts showing symptoms to bring her back in for a recheck. Iโ€™m just not sure what the plan is. Perhaps we can retry the antibiotic sheโ€™s allergic to and then treat the resulting issues.

I wonโ€™t be pursuing alternative โ€˜medicineโ€™. That was a moment of desperation and weighing the risks against her age. Iโ€™ve read up on the thing I briefly considered and itโ€™s not worth it.

I do have D Mannose which the vets have approved, but thatโ€™s only effective against E. coli and she has a different strain. The Cystapro (cranberry extract and probiotic supplement) was bought from the vet but I have no idea if it does much.

Iโ€™ve bought some beef and will make her some broth to keep her drinking heaps of fluids.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 241d (3 replies)

All g! I didn't really think you would try alternative medicine tbh, it was more for others as some don't know that bug spray and pesticides can't be peed or pooped out by cats - it accumulates in their brains.

It sounds like poor Melbcat is going through the ringer, but the most important thing to remember is her quality of life. If she still wants to do things, is eating, drinking, and defecating, then it sounds like it's gonna be alright. She just might have to stay on medication until she passes, unfortunately. Like I said, and like I know you know, you're doing all the right things here. Beef and broth is a lovely treat!

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 241d (2 replies)

Yes itโ€™s surprising. Even at her age sheโ€™s still curious and active and wanting to go out on adventures. Still eating and pooping like a champ, touch wood.

My other concern though is whether this would count as her health not being stable enough for surgery.

I think sheโ€™ll love it. Just gotta drag up some energy to cook and store it

StudChud@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 241d (1 reply)

True her health might not be stable for surgery, but I can't speak to that. In my mind if her quality of life is still good and enriching, then managing her health is the best you or the vets can do. If she's happy you're happy, and it sounds like she's pretty damn happy! ๐Ÿ˜€

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 0 pts · 241d

She is. Sheโ€™d like more freedom but Iโ€™m doing my best for her safety and comfort at least. Iโ€™ll call the specialists and let them know the deal

I think Time Math is my least favourite math I use daily.

Money is like, base 10 yeah? Ten $1s in $10, Ten $10s is $100, and lovely round $20 and $50s. $5s are easy too. Base 10 is easy on our fingers, though you can also count to twelve with one hand, so base 24 at most? (Use your thumb as a pointer and count the spaces between each joint of your finger. 3 spaces per finger X 4 fingers = 12).

Time Math is awful, with a base of 60. Trying to add 35 minutes to 4.50pm is like asking me to fly to moon with my own farts.

TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 241d (7 replies)

The whole point of base 60 is that you can divide it so many different ways. Consider old Brit currency. Large amounts are in decimal (pounds) but small amounts are all base 60 (shillings etc). Except of course for guineas ... but those are a special case.
4.50 pm plus 35 mins is 10 mins to make it 5 pm plus 25 mins. So just before the half hour. Use landmarks like the hour and half hour then calc accordingly. Easy.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 241d (3 replies)

This makes me cry ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ญ partner just tried to explain it to me as well, base 60 and how good it is.

Idk what it is, as soon as Time is applied to math I really struggle lol I probably just need to practice base 60 math tbh, or practice time math. I get base 60 being good, it just melts my brain lol

I put on the evap cooler and pretty sure all it's doing is making the inside more humid. It's sticky in here. Must be too humid outside for it to work properly. I will just drink more to feel cooler, that works right? Got some soju that needs finishing off.
