Years ago I became a customer for MAIL. ** JUST. MAIL.**
I now have access to
VPN
-Don't care, don't want. I use a different service.
Drive
-I'd rather eat my own head than trust someone else's computer with my files. I self host.
Docs+Sheets, storing the documents in the abovementioned "Drive"
Are you joking?
ProtonPass
-Use a different self hosted solution
Wallet
-Not on your @#^ing life
Lumo AI
GFYS
Every single time I find out more trash got glued to my account I get angrier.
Either provide a "Mail+Calendar ONLY" package for a discount or prepare to lose a customer.

You're paying the same price that you started paying years ago, which you must believe is worthwhile because you've been paying it foe this long, and you have more features available to use, which you can choose not to use. This is a ridiculous complaint.
idealism_nearby@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 202d
Did the price go up? Or did you just get more features that you don't need to use?
Reygle@lemmy.world · -12 pts · 202d
It didn't go DOWN..
stove@lemmy.today · 11 pts · 202d
The price has not increased due to the new things your subscription now includes. You are paying no more money than you did when you were only paying for email, if you've used Proton for that long. You are still paying the same price and only using email.
Your gym adds some new basketball courts and doesn't change the membership price. You don't play basketball, so you complain and tell the gym they should lower your membership price?
Your favorite deli likes you so much that they start giving you two sandwiches every time you order one, and you think that since they can offer you this you should be given the option to pay less for a single sandwich?
Depressing mindset.

Weird logic. They're "giving" me stuff I don't want for my money. Sure. They're also spending all their time adding and maintaining things that are NOT what I'm here for. That means "mail" is suffering.

Has your Mail experience been reduced in any way?
Reygle@lemmy.world · -4 pts · 202d
I mean- versus them hardening and improving Mail with all that money and time?
Also yes- it's infected (by default) with an AI writing assistant
artyom@piefed.social · 2 pts · 202d
Is the AI being forced or pushed on you in some way?
Reygle@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 202d
On by default in webmail, so uh... yes
Steve@communick.news · 5 pts · 202d
It did go down.
I imagine you forgot about inflation.
idealism_nearby@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 202d
So you wanted to pay less for the same product? That's what you're upset about? You expected proton to lower your prices?
Reygle@lemmy.world · -4 pts · 202d
I signed up with Mail+Calendar.
Every following product was unwanted and went un-used. It seems to me their intention is to neglect mail and shovel-ware from here on out.
If I'm the asshole here that's fine. I'm just looking to understand why.
artyom@piefed.social · 8 pts · 202d
Your keep saying Mail is being neglected but haven't provided any evidence or even an explanation. They just released a complete rewrite of the Android app.
idealism_nearby@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 202d
As the other guy said, I don't complain about my gym prices when they add some rowing machines, even though I never use the rowing machines.
What do you feel they are neglecting about the mail app? What gesture do you want added?
Steve@communick.news · 11 pts · 202d
You are the crazy one.
You're literally complaining about getting more products and services for the same price.
Do you have any evidence that your imagined Mail+Calendar service would be cheaper or better, if not for all these other things? Or is it all just assumptions on your part?
I genuinely don't understand why you and so many others apparently Want to dislike Proton. Want to dislike it so much, you make up these silly nonsensical excuses.

You're not the only one to say so
That said, you don't have to use what you don't want and the lower price tiers only have the mail.
Reygle@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 202d
I like that youtuber. I'll be sure to watch that vid when I get home later. At this point if they won't give us a "no bloat" package I'm likely to go to Tuta this year. Already using my own domain so it's hardly going to be difficult.

Oh jeez. Thanks for the heads up. That's it, if I'm going anywhere I'm taking the leap and self hosting email now too.
wesker@lemmy.sdf.org · 6 pts · 202d
I do worry that that their service sprawl is going to detract from overall quality of said services. Email, Calendar, Drive, and VPN would have been a perfectly fine ecosystem. Now they're doing AI shit too, I guess?
Reygle@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 202d
The default in Proton's webmail is for their AI to be ON. "Writing assistant".

wesker@lemmy.sdf.org · 4 pts · 202d
Well that's unfortunate.
swelter_spark@reddthat.com · 6 pts · 202d
It definitely gives me a weird feeling to see them becoming bigger and more all-encompassing. And the way they bought SimpleLogin and did nothing with it but keep the dev too busy solving problems to implement any of the features that were planned up until that point didn't really give me a great impression of them as a business, either. I stopped using them a long time ago.
artyom@piefed.social · 5 pts · 202d
...they already offer exactly that.
Reygle@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 202d
Please link? I don't see sh*t in my account to "downgrade" my package beyond what it currently is- "Mail plus", which has access to everything I listed, including Lumo AI slop.
artyom@piefed.social · 5 pts · 202d
Mail Plus, as the name suggests, is Mail+calendar.
Reygle@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 202d
My Mail plus has all of the pictured, with no "restricted, upgrade your plan" messages for any of them.

autr@fedia.io · 5 pts · 202d
Did you actually check the feature list? The Mail Plus has very limited access for the other apps.

There's the free account, has mail and calendar, plus other stuff, but at least you aren't paying for it
