There is a balance to be struck between doomscrolling and being aware of whatโs happening. Knowing when to absorb the facts, and when to put the phone down. Itโs depressing, but when good people choose to look the other way, it means the bad guys win. I hope Australia doesnโt go down the American path. I am grateful for the country we live in.
the coverage of US politics leaves much to be desired
most of the big papers and tv are craven cowards who try to tell us it's a normal government, that the gov just make mistakes
the big media hype up any and all negatives political policies and report trump's spoken word as of it's already set law
what is under reported is that nearly all the policies get struck down and aren't enacted at all
foreign policy and security are the two main problems, loss of expertise is also a problem
I think the most important thing the US needs to do is reconcile city folk and country folk, both have to accept that America comprises different beliefs and ways of living and that all are equally valid ( as long as they are constitutional ( racism is not constitutional ) )
Nothing better than waking up to the smell of smoke, only to find out it's actually just the otways fire and your flat isn't sealed at all against particulates from outside.
My usual veg guy is The Fungus King. If I wanted weirdly specific varieties of foraged mushrooms those were also an option. I bought Weirdly Specific Foraged Stuff last week!
So smokey. I wanna open the windows because itโs cool outside, but I donโt want he smoke
In the house. Also no washing today, clothes will reek if dried outside.
26ยฐc outside. 30ยฐc inside. I have a cross breeze going but it's just not consistent. I've now taken to the outside where I'm sneezing and about to be eaten. Beer is bringing much relief to this menopausal woman.
I've just been going through my bills and realised Coles accidentally gave me a free chicken in my last order. I ordered and paid for two, they gave me three. I didn't even realise because I'd kept changing my mind about how many to get and didn't remember how many I'd actually ordered.
They were all within the weight range ordered, one a touch bigger. They are also charged per kg and they only entered the equivalent of two of them. My guess is the shopper grabbed one, realised it was a size too big and accidentally put it into the bag instead of back in the fridge.
I left a sprinkler on low under a tree in the back yard yesterday. The birds were having a party. Blackbirds, pigeons and indian mynahs we all hopping about in the spray.
And you too. Yesterday and today didnโt do much. Tomorrow off to a friends places for BBQ. I have been assigned to bring a salad, which Iโll do in the morning.
Iโm thinking a Mediterranean pasta salad - cherry tomato, olives, roasted marinated capsicums, olive oil vinegarette, basil leaves, shaved Parmesan. My most made salads are green salad, potato salad, grain salad, pumpkin salad, coleslaw, Greek salad, or rocket and pear, depending on the season and my mood.
I have no interest in sport in general but I don't mind some winter Olympics. Maybe because it's so different to what we usually see and there's none of the annoying hype of Australia athletes
Might have accidentally tattooed my ear by leaving some purported 925 in for too long. Not really a surprise given what my flute used to do to my chin.

That's terrifying that recent ICU nurse dude being shot in the US.
What's just as terrifying is how the admin / media over there are spinning it same w/ Good.
Just getting worse and worse.
I know it's unhealthy to doomscroll but the more you read what's happening over there... just can't turn away.
