MOOD:

Got in a cat fight yesterday lol. Feeling it today didn't go well I guess.

Eagle@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 218d

I aspire to be as unbothered as Butters.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 217d

Heโ€™s so chill. Butters looks like Buddha

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 218d (4 replies)

That's terrifying that recent ICU nurse dude being shot in the US.

What's just as terrifying is how the admin / media over there are spinning it same w/ Good.

Just getting worse and worse.

I know it's unhealthy to doomscroll but the more you read what's happening over there... just can't turn away.

F'n wild.

Pretty thankful to be here and not there atm.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 218d

There is a balance to be struck between doomscrolling and being aware of whatโ€™s happening. Knowing when to absorb the facts, and when to put the phone down. Itโ€™s depressing, but when good people choose to look the other way, it means the bad guys win. I hope Australia doesnโ€™t go down the American path. I am grateful for the country we live in.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 218d

The outright straight face lying is absolutely terrifying.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 218d

the coverage of US politics leaves much to be desired

most of the big papers and tv are craven cowards who try to tell us it's a normal government, that the gov just make mistakes

the big media hype up any and all negatives political policies and report trump's spoken word as of it's already set law

what is under reported is that nearly all the policies get struck down and aren't enacted at all

foreign policy and security are the two main problems, loss of expertise is also a problem

I think the most important thing the US needs to do is reconcile city folk and country folk, both have to accept that America comprises different beliefs and ways of living and that all are equally valid ( as long as they are constitutional ( racism is not constitutional ) )

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 217d

My gfs mum, who is in America, got the news from sbs. It's barely in their media.

Dalek_Thal@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 218d (2 replies)

Nothing better than waking up to the smell of smoke, only to find out it's actually just the otways fire and your flat isn't sealed at all against particulates from outside.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 218d

I just opened the door for some cool air and got the smoke too

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 218d

Samsies. Except my realisation was that I had left a window cracked for cool air. Now all closed and Air purifier is going OFF.

Edit: as in going sick not being turned off

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 217d

Drove to Woodend for lunch. Nice to get out of the smoke and to avoid the doomscrolling. Now for slow horses and tackling mt washmore

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 218d (1 reply)

I left the back wooden door open last night for some air circulation.

Too late to get the smell out of the house now, so I'm pretending it's not so bad.

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 218d

I left a window open. Same problem.

My usual veg guy is The Fungus King. If I wanted weirdly specific varieties of foraged mushrooms those were also an option. I bought Weirdly Specific Foraged Stuff last week!

In a situation like that, it pays to be specific

So smokey. I wanna open the windows because itโ€™s cool outside, but I donโ€™t want he smoke In the house. Also no washing today, clothes will reek if dried outside.

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 218d (1 reply)

I left mine outside last night. whoopsidoodle.

At the beach last night you see the column of smoke from the otways.

why is it so hot for you?

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 217d

26ยฐc outside. 30ยฐc inside. I have a cross breeze going but it's just not consistent. I've now taken to the outside where I'm sneezing and about to be eaten. Beer is bringing much relief to this menopausal woman.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 218d (4 replies)

I've just been going through my bills and realised Coles accidentally gave me a free chicken in my last order. I ordered and paid for two, they gave me three. I didn't even realise because I'd kept changing my mind about how many to get and didn't remember how many I'd actually ordered.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 218d

Winner winner chicken dinner

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 218d (2 replies)

sometimes they will give 3 if they are small

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 218d (1 reply)

They were all within the weight range ordered, one a touch bigger. They are also charged per kg and they only entered the equivalent of two of them. My guess is the shopper grabbed one, realised it was a size too big and accidentally put it into the bag instead of back in the fridge.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 218d

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 218d (2 replies)

I left a sprinkler on low under a tree in the back yard yesterday. The birds were having a party. Blackbirds, pigeons and indian mynahs we all hopping about in the spray.

And you too. Yesterday and today didnโ€™t do much. Tomorrow off to a friends places for BBQ. I have been assigned to bring a salad, which Iโ€™ll do in the morning.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 217d (1 reply)

Very interested to know what salads for inspiration?

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 217d

Iโ€™m thinking a Mediterranean pasta salad - cherry tomato, olives, roasted marinated capsicums, olive oil vinegarette, basil leaves, shaved Parmesan. My most made salads are green salad, potato salad, grain salad, pumpkin salad, coleslaw, Greek salad, or rocket and pear, depending on the season and my mood.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 217d (1 reply)

Iโ€™m being a slug and having way too much computer time

Edit: I did do a little exercise

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 217d

Ain't nothing wrong with that. I didn't leave the house at all since Friday untill the gym today afternoon.

Between my PC, PlayStation and TV, I'm slugging it hardcore.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 217d

4 loads of washing, tidying and cleaning, reading some higher physics, went for a walk down the beach, went shopping

so a busy day even if i have spent some time online

FYI, Winter Olympics starts soon in Italy on 6 Feb.

Edit: with ski mountaineering making a debut this time, should e an interesting watch.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 217d

I have no interest in sport in general but I don't mind some winter Olympics. Maybe because it's so different to what we usually see and there's none of the annoying hype of Australia athletes

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 218d (2 replies)

tone212_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 218d

Might have accidentally tattooed my ear by leaving some purported 925 in for too long. Not really a surprise given what my flute used to do to my chin.

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 217d

My friends OAM medal is 925. I thought it was kind of bullshit myself.

A random ish reminder that hot sugar is terrifying stuff. I will have homemade nutbars in the not too distant future.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 217d (3 replies)

I considered making some for sugar wax but I do not dare. That stuff is sweet napalm

Catfish@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 217d (2 replies)

Catfish@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 218d (1 reply)

Yes., isn't that the point?

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 217d

I mean lengthwise

It could be a normal pendant but if self made it could be more like a small tablet shape or a large bead

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 217d (1 reply)

I finally cracked the doors for a cross breeze and itโ€™s cooler outside than it is in

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 217d

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 218d (2 replies)

It looks like all the smoke is going to Melbourne, I can see a distant haze but can't smell anything. I have managed to fit in a dog walk before it gets too hot.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 218d

Yeah it's very faint in Melton. The sky looks shit but atleast I can have my door open. Hayfever is up though.

Eagle@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 218d

We're very south east and have an orange tinge but no smoke smell thankfully.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 218d (5 replies)

Was the cool change today or tomorrow? I'll take it when I can but tomorrow would be nice since that's when we're heading back to Melbourne

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 218d

It's cool in Springvale now. I have all the windows open.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 218d (1 reply)

I don't think we're expecting any real cool change until next weekend. Falling to warm instead of hot overnight looks like the best we're going to get.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 217d

I thought as much. We'll just try head back as early as we can tomorrow and at least I have Tuesday off. Got a band to watch that night and the night after though so those are going to suck

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 218d (1 reply)

Very important news!

A recomp of Banjo kazooie has been released. I've been playing the Majora's Mask recomp and I feel like these are the ultimate ways to play these games

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 217d (3 replies)

I've always wanted to play OOT and Majoras Mask. Didn't know these recomps existed.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 217d (2 replies)

As well as all the technical improvements there's also twin stick support which makes playing them much easier

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 217d (1 reply)

Have you heard of ship of harkinian, the OOT remake?

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 217d

I know of it because it comes up on Portmaster as a game to download. But I played a GameCube version of OOT when I finally got around to it. Still emulation but probably a bit better than 64 emulation

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 217d

I've started to get a bit smokey now, it looks like the wind has swung around. It's predicted to keep swinging so should be taking the smoke away from Melbourne.
