I feel like conveying the use of this exact word was already achieved by stating that's how the victim felt (because without their saying, it would be impossible to know).
However, I'm not a native speaker, so it's absolutely possible for me to read stuff between the lines that aren't there.
Nah your understanding is correct, but journalism has its own set of rules and is essentially an underlying dialect that is guess half of us can’t follow
Its there to clarify that the journalist wasn't adding their own opinion to the article, which they are not allowed to do. The word would have to be a quote from someone interviewed in the article or some other official description.
Imagine being angry with people for engaging with content using the tools they were given… I don’t typically downvote… But fuck it, I’m downvoting every single comment you posted in this thread just because you’re whining about it.
Hey @FelixCress@lemmy.world care to explain the downvote, and why you deleted your comments after you were buried? Didn’t feel like I was contributing to the conversation? If that’s the case, why did you delete your own comments that were “contributing”?
Kinda annoying when someone else does it, isn’t it?

In the context of an article those quotes don't represent sarcastic air quote style of speech. They are quoting the victim who used the exact word.

Hey, I noticed you downvoted. Care to justify that? After all, people need a good reason to do so, right?

Did you seriously just have this level of a temper tantrum over down votes?

I just came back to this thread. All I see is a blasted wasteland of shame. I can infer some of what happened, but holy cow.
