Soda contains primarily fructose as a sugar, either because they put the fructose in when they made it via high fructose corn syrup or because the sucrose (from cane sugar) is broken down into fructose + glucose by the acid in the soda. It is not the type of sugar that makes fruit healthier than soda. Rather, it's the other stuff in fruit. When it comes to glycemic index (how quickly the food raises your blood sugar) fiber is the hero, because it slows the absorption of the sugar by your gut, which means fruit doesn't spike your blood sugar nearly as quickly as sugared soda. Fruit juice (which is basically fruit minus fiber) has a shockingly similar glycemic index to Coca-Cola.
Sorry for all the parentheticals. I am not a very good writer.
I’ve never put chicken stock in a rice cooker, but I kind of need to know.
I did steam some nachos in there one time. They came out perfect. When I excitedly told a few friends, they all universally gave me concerned looks. I decided to retire the recipe while I still had people around me who weren’t ashamed to be near me.
Yep you go tell them how thats stupid, then they use their sock-puppet account to defend themselves obnoxiously to farm so much more engagement and revenue than any respectable contribution to society they could ever achieve through honest methods.
Putting that nasty concoction aside, here's how you cook rice properly.
Put a cup of rice in a small saucepan, wash it until the water is clear. Add enough water so it comes up to the top of your thumbnail, about 3/4" above the level of the rice.
Put it on high heat and leave it until it starts to bubble like crazy. Remove from heat, put the lid on the pan and leave it for 15 minutes.
Save leftover rice in the fridge for the best fried rice the next day.
I mean soda as glaze is not uncommon. Coca cola can be used as a glaze base for pork spare ribs in chinese cooking. It's basically just a sweet dark glaze at that point
I've seen people use soda in seafood boil as well but no clue if that tastes good.
The rice was pretty bad though. Thats the you should probably just buy a rice cooker kinda rice

The chicken itself is probably fine. It would taste like any sauced chicken you get at an American Chinese restaurant.
That rice was heinous though.

Duck a'laronge is fine. The acidic drink might even have worked as a marinade. We have coq au vin as well.
One time I made chicken with pears and pear cider. It worked well.
I think this dish is better than it's made out to be.
Fuck that rice though

It's made with ~11 cubes of sugar for a single portion. She just made awful rice with candy.

You won't belive how much sugar is in fruit
https://health.clevelandclinic.org/fruits-high-in-sugar
The internet says one sugar cube is 4 grams. Let's be kind to me and round down the cubes of sugar to 10 and round up the sugar in the orange to 20.
Basically, if you made duck a la orange with 2 oranges, you'd be using the same amount of sugar.
It's not that divorced from the reality of the situation expected in kitchens.

The sugar in fruit is fructose and is healthy, contrary to refined sugars.
Skullgrid@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 200d
where do you think table sugar comes from?
TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 200d
Sugar cane or sugar beet. It's sucrose, a mixture of fructose and glucose.
Not all sugar is the same.
ebolapie@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 200d
Fruit is healthy in moderation because of all the fiber. Soda also contains primarily fructose.

That rice could probably have been cooked for another hour or two. I mean, I'm sure that you can still see the individual grains.

Yeah, I did not expect the rice to be the part that made me the most sad.

Can't tell if she over cooked her rice or undercooked her congee
ChicoSuave@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 201d
Honestly if it was cooked in chicken stock instead of water it would be good congee.

Look up "arroz con pollo" and you'll get a universe of options. Ate it all the time growing up a dozen different ways, it was a staple.

No, Jamie would have put the teaspoon of oil aside and poured the rest of the bottle in. Then used the remaining teaspoon as a serving garnish.

It's perfectly fine if you maintain your cutting board properly. In that case it is safer than plastic.

Wash it with soap and water, then let it dry. The wood itself is naturally anti-microbial, so it will sanitize itself as it dries.
