Which country will one of these people end up getting murdered? My money’s on France. Someone is going to douse their steak au poivre in bacon flavored ranch, and the reaction won’t be pretty.

Codpiece@feddit.uk · 39 pts · 147d (3 replies)

My money is on Italy the moment they try using it as pasta sauce.

dizzle18@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 147d

If they can even survive past asking why their pizza doesn’t have any cheese on it.

defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 147d

Or basically any other food, for that matter.

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 146d

I want to throw up out of every orifice of my body right now. Even my pores.

Okay I get that it might be dangerous but I'm not sure if I am more or less intrigued now

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 147d

It's fine as long as they livestream it

notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 147d

Yo this is how you start WWIII

bufalo1973@piefed.social · 2 pts · 146d

Depends on which country they land first. If it's Spain and the throw that shit on a paella...

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 145d

I mean as long as it's a classic buttermilk dressing aka actual ranch. Then it's fine. Maybe not on steak au poivre. But like fuck man.

Buttermilk goes good with basically everything. It's just kinda an inoffensive dressing.

digital_man@lemmy.world · 40 pts · 147d (2 replies)

ThanksObama@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 147d

Ranch it up bro!

In Europe they don't know what ranch is so Cool Ranch Doritos are called Cool American Doritos...

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 12 pts · 147d

in ireland its called Cool Original

atan@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 146d (2 replies)

TIL I don't like ranch.

P1k1e@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 146d

To be fair, ranch and cool ranch are somewhat different

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 145d

It tastes literally nothing like ranch. Even the American version actually called cool ranch. Tastes literally nothing like ranch.

Ranch is just a buttermilk dressing. It's fine, it's hard to find people that genuinely don't like buttermilk dressing.

You may not like hidden valleys version since they add a bit more to it. But normal ass ranch is like absurdly inoffensive as a taste.

logi@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 146d

And with what Americans have been up to recently, they're going to have to rename it again.

Soulg@ani.social · 1 pts · 146d (1 reply)

Til ranch is only American

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 145d

It's just buttermilk... Buttermilk is absurdly popular in the EU it literally out sales the US and has for a while like decades.

It's just not called ranch in the EU by basically any company I can find that makes a buttermilk dressing.

The term ranch is most US based and really just used by hidden valley and their competitors to opt the name brand recognition.

Everyone else just calls it buttermilk dressing.

Angryhumanoid@fedinsfw.app · 31 pts · 147d

No no, this makes sense. The world's opinion of us is already as low as it can possibly get, this can only help. Not likely but how much worse could it get?

RaoulDook@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 147d

They should bring Eric Andre along, he knows how to Ranch It Up!

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 147d (4 replies)

Listen, I love ranch, but you're gonna want to convince the Scots and let them try to convince everyone else. Ranch is amazing on fried food, and by fuck does Scotland fry food.

pet1t@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 146d

I want to see an American eat haggis with ranch

ramble81@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 147d

Now I want a scotch egg dipped in ranch.

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 145d (1 reply)

I've done that. You just tell them it's buttermilk and they f*** with it hard. You just tell him it's ranch after the fact and they get really pissed at you.

But they won't stop eating it. I've done it twice.

Seriously, people keep thinking that all buttermilk dressing just tastes like hidden valley ranch. When really it's just hidden valley ranch is the disgusting outlier why everyone else's ranch is just normal buttermilk dressing and it's delicious.

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 145d

Honestly I think hidden valley is fine. It's middle of the road, but I get that it may put off non Americans. The thing with creamy dressings like ranch, Bleu cheese, and Ceasar is that the good shit is really good, the middle of the road is going to have some who hate it even though they love the good shit, but others will still like it even though they agree that the better stuff is better, and a lot of people who'd like even the middle of the road stuff will dislike the lower end versions (like store brand).

I don't even like buttermilk dressing on salad, but anything fried is so much better dipped in it. There's a reason it's always offered alongside yankeeschnitzel here as well as often alongside fries. And yeah it's comparable to an equivalent quality mayonnaise based sauce for fries.

switcheroo@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 147d (2 replies)

Ngl, I would love a trip to Europe. I'm not the biggest fan of ranch but I'd put ranch on every damn thing they want. Europeans would be side eyeing me like mad. Wouldn't care. Got free trip.

bampop@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 146d

But do you need extra dressing when the whole kitchen staff have already hocked up their chunkiest loogies to hold up their end of the cultural exchange?

Hadriscus@jlai.lu · 1 pts · 146d

If they're anything like me, I think the europeans just wouldn't know wtf you're dousing your meal with

FreddiesLantern@leminal.space · 15 pts · 146d

EU: USA wtf are you doing? THE WORLD IS ON FIRE!!!!! STOP! STOP!!!!! STOP!!!!!! Nobody likes that!! Get all your stuff away from everywhere!!

USA: Oh my bad, how about we come on over there and put our stuff on your food? That’ll make everyone happy right?

EU: FFFFFFF!!!!!!!

Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 13 pts · 147d (8 replies)

My unpopular opinion

Ranch is disgusting

PodPerson@lemmy.zip · 7 pts · 147d (2 replies)

We make ranch at home to occasionally dip things in, and it’s enjoyable. However, the slimy, sour shit that comes out of a bottle of Hidden Valley Ranch is diagusting.

YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 146d (1 reply)

Homemade ranch really is on another level! Cheaper than the bottled stuff too. $1.50 for a small thing of sour cream and another $1 for a package of seasoning. I used to just use whatever was in my spice cabinet, but the package is so convenient if you just want it easy.

daychilde@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 146d

I keep a container of it on-hand so I can make smaller batches of it - I typically mix with just sour cream as a chip dip. For salads, I tend to prefer other dressings.

chatokun@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 146d (1 reply)

I used to like it, but nowadays I much prefer vinaigrettes. Ginger based Asian ones are good too. White sauces generally feel kinda heavy to me.

Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 145d

agreed wholley

EtnaAtsume@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 146d

I grew up in the Midwest and have hated it since I was a kid.

Oh the ostracization!

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 145d (1 reply)

Try normal buttermilk dressing.

The stuff hidden valley makes is kind of a disgrace. They put so much extra s*** in it. It's ridiculous.

Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 145d

oh yeah, for sure. If im going to serve it, that's what I would do. But I don't like dairy "sauces" or sour cream, mayo, none of that. Dairy dressings gross me out. But I have made it homemade for others in the past.

still gross to me though, nothing will change that lol

After having gone out and tried other brands of ranch (hidden valley was my family's goto all my life), I have found that I aftually quite hate hidden valley's.

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 145d

Yep, they put so much extra s*** in it. You can't actually taste the buttermilk.

Trying any normal ass ranch or buttermilk dressing is delicious

Ok but I have to break the news to you: I know many European people who have gone ape shit when they tried ranch for the first time.

T156@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 147d (5 replies)

I can never quite tell whether that means that they loathed it, or that they went mad for it.

YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today · 6 pts · 146d (2 replies)

Ranch induced psychosis is a terrible blight on humanity!

T156@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 146d (1 reply)

It really is a terrible business. I had a friend who went the United States once, tried it, and then had a psychotic break where he started thinking he was a male sheep.

He ultimately had to be sent to a farm upstate for treatment. Some place called the Ram Ranch.

YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 146d

they went wild, as in good. like when a dog gets its first taste of ice cream. they go bananas, knocking tables over and smashing into bookshelves to get their prissy little european hands on that tub of ronch

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 145d

The trick is to typically just tell them it's better milk dressing cuz that is what it is.

Really is only hidden valley ranch that tends to not be liked by a sparkling large number of people.

I've yet to really meet anyone who genuinely dislikes normal ranch AKA buttermilk dressing

Saganaki@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 146d (1 reply)

American Biscuits and Gravy is pretty much universally approved once they get past the appearance.

Tried it some relatives some time back. They were so confused/disgusted until they tried it. Wanted it every morning for their visit thereafter.

Every time I call them they mention missing it.

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 1 pts · 146d

indeed. also if they get a taste of kraft macaroni and cheese they basically get a tattoo of a box

Jiral@lemmy.org · 6 pts · 147d

What's that "Ranch"? Just the usual mix of fat and sugar to drown any food and its taste with, good American style?

Ranch dressing on pizza....

And I haven't even explained to them what ranch dressing is yet

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 145d

Here's a mind blow ranch dressing AKA buttermilk dressing is sold more frequently in the EU than the US the US is fascination with ranch has declined over the last 30 years massively.

It's just hidden valley. An American company uses the term ranch so their competitors use the term ranch to compete with them here in the US. Since they're the biggest one pretty much everywhere else and the entire world, it's just called buttermilk dressing.

01189998819991197253@infosec.pub · 2 pts · 143d

omg this is literally about salad dressing. The photo looks AI too.

Lanske@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 146d (5 replies)

I don't know how ranch tastes, but i always read "rank".

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 145d (1 reply)

It's just buttermilk with some herbs. It mostly tastes like buttermilk.

So like a creamy butter sauce.

Hidden valley adds so much extra s*** that it's undetectable underneath it all, which is a big reason why people tend to say they don't like ranch. They specifically don't like hidden valley buttermilk dressing, but normal ass ranch dressing is typically fine.

Lanske@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 145d
