"Chickens are intelligent and sensitive to the welfare of their peers."
Chickens are assholes to everything. That doesn't mean they need to boxed up in tiny crates and killed. But I'll still say they are mean little fuckers with small brains.
I love that so much! I'm actually laughing I've never seen that before! I fucking love it! I'm a meat eater who raises and eats his own meat and strives to give my animals the best life they can until they have"one bad day". But I absolutely adore the satirical irony of that site.
Neither does grass that is why cut grass smells like that. It is a chemical compound to notify birds and other insect eating animals that there is free dinner.
They're joint in their anger against trianon/sevre treaties, shared trauma bonding moments led from one thing to another and now John Hungary doesn't want to eat turkey, as counterintuitive as it is
Reminds me of the second Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. They specifically engineered an animal capable of speech that could tell you directly that it wanted to be eaten.
For real I don't really understand all the hate PETA gets. I think the most you can accuse them of is not being strategic in their messaging, and doing some pretty dumb stunts over the years. Everyone I've ever met who's involved with PETA has seemed like genuinely a good person who's trying to help animals.
Of course there's also the "PETA kills pets" stuff, but if you do one google search you'll see this is astroturfed lies/exaggerations from the meat industry, so I don't pay that any mind.
The only people I've met involved with peta have been 3rd party contractors paid to gather signatures, who have either been polite or obnoxious or whatever, you know your normal signature gathering dudes have good and bad days like the rest of us.
I've never met anyone who was not employed by the organization in a "oh fuck I need money" position, and I have hobbed the nobs for charity. I'm not sure what to make of that.
Wtf man. I understand protecting animals and going vegan. But stuff like that is just over the top and revolting. And I don't even care much about cooking mama, which is / was a game ffs.
Members of PETA casn't just say this sort of thing without offering some kind of alternative. Until they start selling chunks of themselves as replacement meat, I'm just not gonna take them seriously!

I have eaten dog meat before. It’s kind of gamey. Not particularly great, but not bad either.

Myth: Turkeys are killed by the industry for that purpose
Truth: Turkeys just mystersouly show up dead after falling into the big killing machine that the industry had nothing to do with

Grass is not conscious.
PhoenixDog@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 155d
Consciousness doesn't mean it doesn't have defencive measures.
Carnivorous plants don't have consciousness, but they still know when and how to eat bugs that land on them.

Being eaten by a superior creature is part of a turkey's lifecycle and who are we to deny them that honor?
qaeta@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 155d
PETA wants to shame the turkey's entire bloodline by causing them to dishonourably die of old age. Why does PETA hate turkeys?
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 154d
Why won't let the turkeys die with honor? Shol'vah!
