I wanted to share this open-source alternative to Spotify/YouTube Music for Android that I found. It's ad-free and VERY CUSTOMIZABLE. This definitely deserves so much MORE recognition. https://github.com/koiverse/ArchiveTune

appears to be similar to innertune / metrolist. I use the latter and adore it.
Delascas@feddit.uk · 6 pts · 143d
Another big upvote for Metrolist. IMO its the best of them.
Shady_Shiroe@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 142d
In the README under Acknowledgements, they credit Metrolist for base framework.
In other news, I'm satisfied with metrolist so I don't see a need to switch, has been a much better experience than spotube even before their refactor cuz of Spotify lawyers.

There are a couple of good ones that does the same. Either fetching from YouTube or Savnn. I use OuterTune.

This is a very polished product. Surprisingly so

Oh, you weren't kidding, it really is!
Even github is very respectable.
Alvaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 142d
It is using youtube music as the source, FYI
blinfabian@feddit.nl · 6 pts · 142d
when you login with google, doesnt that ruin the "privacy" part? pls fill me in
rafssunny@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 142d
you don't need to log in to use the app.
blinfabian@feddit.nl · 2 pts · 142d
no i know, but because its an option thats just something i was wondering
DarkMetatron@feddit.org · 1 pts · 141d
The login is a great Option for people like me who have a youtube account, in my case with premium even, but prefere the features and design of this app over the official one.
In this case privacy, in regards of my music taste and hearing patterns, is something I don't care about much.
ThisIsABlandUsername@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 141d
Some people are ok with that. Privacy is not an all or nothing ideal, it's a spectrum. Some people want privacy in some areas but are ok with none in others.

It says it draws from YouTube Music. Do you have to be a subscriber?
rafssunny@lemmy.zip · 12 pts · 143d
no, and you don't even need to log in to use it.
PMmeTrebuchets@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 143d
Ohhhh I'm so downloading this. Ty!
Tangent5280@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 143d
So, like spotube? Does it also use the same download mechanisms in the background?
roserose56@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 142d
Bro I have spotube, but after some time it got unusable. Loved it tho.

Scroll all the way down. If the developer has published/released apk, you'll see a Releases secrion at the bottom.
Click on Releases to view all versions that have been released. The highlighted green one is the latest official apk.
If you have Obtainium, just add the URL into it, and it'll auto find releases and updates.
TheMissingNumber@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 143d
I had the same problem and are using Obtainium for most of my apps as of now.
xelar@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 143d
What about Github Store?
rafssunny@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 143d
if you haven't been able to, their website has a direct link to download the apk. link

looks kind of similar to Vivi, but seems even more polished.
culpable@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 142d
I try last week, work perfectly on Android but not on Android Auto.
tehsYs@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 143d
Wow, looks amazing, going to try instead of revanced.
blinfabian@feddit.nl · 2 pts · 141d

Man this is incredible. Much better then YT music morphe. Does it support music videos or just audio?
rafssunny@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 125d
I think just audio unfortunately, but I'm not sure
NGC2346@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 141d
Thinking of ditching the iPhone for this app alone
timhayes1991@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 143d
Very nice, thank you for sharing! Haven't heard of this one before. Always down to get rid of a Google service. Sadly I've yet to find a YouTube solution better than Morphe.
dihutenosa@piefed.social · 5 pts · 143d
How exactly are you getting rid of Google with this? The music is still loaded from Google servers, thus subject to blocking or disappearing.
timhayes1991@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 142d
I suppose, but I don't need a Google account for it!
ropatrick@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 135d
Am I right that it is not for Spotify despite what it says in OP? Git page refers to YT music only?
pineapple@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 142d
I just want to take a moment to reflect on how nice the material you UI looks.
idefix@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 143d
Is it a RiMusic child such as Kreate?
