It's from the lottery. Their lottery has animals associated with numbers and 24 is related to "veado," which means "deer" in English. Veado is a slur for gay in Brasil.

Viado is the slur. But they are pronounced the same

Thank you for the context but that is still the fucking stupidest thing I've ever heard. So tired of patriarchy.

I didn't make it up. I am just telling you what I know. Don't shoot the messenger.

carl_dungeon@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 153d

That’s the gayest thing ever.

"Swear to god; if I see a number 24 I'm just gonna start bumming guys all over the place"

~ Very heterosexual Brazilian men

Do you know what's even gayer?

25

"23 and Me" takes on a whole new meaning.

But if they add 23 and 1, won’t that make them gay when they work it out? Plus won’t they be gay for being 24 anyway?

I dunno. Just seems like they are being stupid.

Little known fact, but straight men in Brazil aren't taught math. That way they can escape the horrors of the number 24 and never accidentally turn gay.

In case anyone else was just as confused as I was. Prepare to be more confused

Seems pretty close to "Anus". Better change your language quickly before it rewires your brain to be gay like some sort of gay "Arrival" alien.

trolske@feddit.org · 4 pts · 153d (1 reply)

In Spanish "años" would be "years" and "anos" would be "anuses". No idea about Portuguese though

Skullgrid@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 153d

portuguese just writes Anos for "Years"

Not even Anhos, which is what they use instead of ñ

OwOarchist@pawb.social · 2 pts · 153d

But what if you're turning 24 and you are gay? Do they make a candle for that?

Boppel@feddit.org · 2 pts · 153d

wow. thats some serious insecurity... brazil are your men okay?
