The worst part is that the unattributed versions are out there now to be shared. He's creating hundreds of images that will continue to spread, ensuring that the artists never get credit for their work. It's a real piece of shit move. This guy needs to be banned.
Slight nitpick, but CC BY is not a copyleft license, because it doesn't require derivative works to be licensed the same way. CC BY-SA and CC BY-NC-SA are copyleft licenses.
If you're going to sneakily change what the creator drew or wrote, why stop at the creator's name? Why not fix up a dull punch line or tidy up a drawings weaknesses?
this feels a lot like when a product proudly declares "made in europe" or "made in america" while only the last processing step is done there, 99% of processing steps before that are done in china.

Xkcd and other artists who don't use water marks:
Am I a Joke To You?

Do you steal artists' work on your main account too, or is this just a gimmick account?
vikingtons@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 146d
there's a level of irony to omitting the artist's wordmark on an "i made this" meme comic lol

So I guess copyleft licenses like CC BY enforce mandatory ads, by your logic?
prettybunnys@piefed.social · 16 pts · 147d
My bet is they’re doing it for the attention they’re getting by doing it

Yup this. Attention seeking. Seen it way too often on Lemmy.

CC BY does not tell you to watermark all your works based on it.
You could simply provide attribution via text/hyperlinks.

It's weird that you still don't know what a watermark is
And need the attention

As a certified ad-hater, I would want artist contributions on the comics.

How would we know you aren't doing that already?
Beep@lemmus.org · -73 pts · 147d
Too lazy to do that.

This all seems like more effort than just re uploading
reev@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 147d
It's just engagement bait and it works every time
Joelk111@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 146d
But not lazy enough to leave watermarks. Fascinating.

Linking your shitty community in the description while considering a watermark in a comic strip to be advertising is peak irony.
SirHaxalot@nord.pub · 11 pts · 147d
Did you make your own community just so you can cater to yourself with mandatory attribution removal? lol.

Me when people visit. It was improved three times since Covid by an experienced carpenter and his creative wife. then they sold it to us.
