The facility where she is being held, run by GEO Group, a multibillion-dollar private prison company, has been the subject of dozens of complaints from current and former female detainees who have claimed they were denied basic medical treatment, hygiene supplies, and edible food.

Others have said they’ve faced sexual abuse and harassment and were subject to forced labor. In December, a former guard pleaded guilty in federal court to sexually abusing a Nicaraguan detainee in mid-2025.

Jfc. :(

Go on, soldier. Go deploy, and fight for more of this.

That blue cord on his shoulder should mean this facility gets the full experience of infantry training, barrel first.

Fuck this and FUCK ICE

Typotyper@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 147d (2 replies)

What does the blue cord mean

WindyRebel@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 147d (1 reply)

I looked it up and it just means they are infantry.

I’m thinking the poster is insinuating they will shoot up the facility?

You can’t just up and leave the military any time you’d like. You have to have a significant mental breakdown and end up in a psych ward to get out easily.

I don’t think you realize what I’m saying. You have to literally attempt suicide in order to get out of the military without waiting out your contract or removing yourself from society.

Like, they need to be able to visibly see that you have attempted to kill yourself, and even then you have to convince them that it was real.

Would you cut open your arm right now to prove a point?

mech@feddit.org · 4 pts · 147d (1 reply)

You can simply refuse to deploy.
No need to mutilate yourself or attempt suicide.
Just say "No, I won't go".
You'll get a letter telling you where to meet your unit. Don't go there.
Or if you're already with your unit, don't get on the plane.
Maybe you'll spend a little bit of time in a jail cell, but even that is exceedingly rare.
Most likely, you'll just be dishonorably discharged to get you and your opinions away from the other soldiers as quickly as possible. You will then have to find employment with someone who doesn't care about that.

JustAnotherKay@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 147d

German instance

Knows more about getting out of the American military than me

I literally did that. I told them I wouldn’t go to Japan. They confined me to my ship until I attempted suicide.

You are not all-knowing.

I have heard of resistance. I resisted.

I was in the military, I refused to go to my deployment. They confined me to my ship until I attempted suicide.

You’re an asshole, and you don’t know as much as you think

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 146d

Or you could just go AWOL and accept the consequences?

It's honestly been refreshing yankistanis losing their collective minds and threatening to leave fediverse, when faced with a different opinion that isn't stroking their predisposition and ego.

The fragility of so called stewards of "freedom of speech", when they're out of the platforms catering to their faux supremacy.

glimse@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 147d

I have yet to see anything like that...Are these Americans threatening to leave the fediverse in the room with us now?

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 4 pts · 146d

That's a massive generalization. Yes, america is full of ignorant assholes. That doesn't mean every american is an ignorant asshole.

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 4 pts · 146d (6 replies)

Or get pregnant, if that's a possibility for you...

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 146d (1 reply)

This is why they're really scared of mpreg

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 146d

There is no true equality in the world until men can get pregnant

JustAnotherKay@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 146d (3 replies)

Getting pregnant will not get you out of the American military, just out of a deployment

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 3 pts · 146d (2 replies)

False. When an active duty service member gets pregnant, she is given an option to receive a medical discharge.

JustAnotherKay@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 146d

Interesting. I knew so many pregnant sailors that I just assumed the option wasn’t given, never applied to me. Now I know

Professorozone@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 147d

Not anytime no, but I believe this was his third tour of duty. Depends on the timing.

MehBlah@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 147d (2 replies)

Have things changed. I remember when you signed up for a four year enlistment.

mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 147d (1 reply)

It was never actually four years. The active duty contract is typically two to six years of active service, and then another four years of reserve afterwards. Basically, even after your active duty time is up, they can still call you back in (or just refuse to let you leave in the first place) for another four years.

Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 147d

It’s, or at least was, an eight year commitment with the typical active cycle 4 years but some would do 2 active 6 inactive or 6 active, 2 inactive. Education or additional active years (6/2) could bump up starting rank.

As crazy as it sounds, I say let ICE come in and constantly harass the military. Let them take it far enough that the military is willing to shoot any ICE members they see. Hell, have ICE piss them off enough to stage a coup. Ain't no amount of police would be able to stop the military storming the white house.

inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 147d (3 replies)

Because most military coups have been such a rousing success for regaining Democracy.

TheBlackLounge@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 147d

On the other hand, most democracies come from military coups. All the recent coups leading to authoritarianism come from the CIA or Kremlin or Islamism. After the cold war more coups led to democracy afain. If the US has an internal coup now it'll be more likely one of those, I'd think.

gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 146d

Well, look at Vichy France and their eventual liberation from Nazi Germany and De Gaulle and the ultimate transition to the 5th republic. Not a “military coup” per se, but still a period in France where strong military-oriented leadership

Sure, it’s not often that military leadership ends up peacefully transitioning to civilian leadership… but given how our civilian leadership is the problem right now, I’m willing to give it a shot, because it could hardly be less sane that the idiocy that’s happening now. There exists some subset of career military officers and leadership to whom honor and loyalty and integrity actually matter; the same cannot be said for anyone in the regime currently, since their North Star is making a buck and “winning”.

lama@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 146d

I agree I don't want the coup but maybe if ICE pisses off the military enough, they won't coup a Democrat if they ever get voted back in
