::: spoiler Behold, my $275 wooden spoon

Assembly was required. Fortunately there was an expert instructor and all tools required.

It started out as a chunk of firewood, then we used an axe and various carving tools to turn it into a spoon. The wood is from a nectarine tree. Once it has dried out fully in a few weeks time I can sand and oil it to finish it off.

It was rather hard work, and I am definitely cancelling tomorrows planned weightlifting session, as I am unlikely to be able to grip anything, let alone lift it.

I also got a bonus couple of garbage bags full of woodchips to put on the garden.

Lost Trades Fair? Nectarine sounds beautiful.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 135d

It's the 'Rare Arts and Lost Trades' centre at Ballarat. It's next to Sovereign Hill, in what used to be the gold museum.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 135d (1 reply)

Did you do that? Nice job.

I was wanting to learn how to whittle but not sure I can be trusted with a proper sharp knife

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 135d

They were very big on safety procedures and they also had cut resistant gloves. I did not cut myself or come anywhere close to doing so. I did however cut myself last night on a piece of dried chicken marinade baked onto a baking rack, so I think it's fair to say that washing the dishes is an inherently more dangerous endeavour than spoon carving.

looks delicious

Eagle@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 135d

Oh yum.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 135d (2 replies)

Decided I'm actually not going out today. The weather is just terrible and I want to sit outside lol

Will probably go on Wednesday arvo, as the weather looks better

Time to hurry up and chill

YL is dog sitting (staying at the house). I got this text.

Question: If someone was staying at your house on their own for 2 weeks what might they find strange?

I think someone would be curious about the amount of speakers and disco lights here.

TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 136d

Absence of a tv.

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 136d

What a weird layout the joint is, it's a whole lot of renovations cobbled together. It's a rabbit warren in a trenchcoat ๐Ÿ˜‚. Maybe also all the weird noises and stuff in the main part of the house. But mainly the quantity of art and craft supplies crammed into my part of the house, a fairly small space. I've got enough stuff here to power a small primary school ๐Ÿ˜†

No microwave. Number of plastic dinosaurs? Number of things that are not black? Ask Witchy I guess ๐Ÿ˜บ

TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d

Dinosaurs are not strange. Extinct, yes. Strange, no. At least for anyone that has ever had children in the house plastic dinos are normal.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d

Bed in a non-bedroom room because of upcoming works.

The random tent inside. Either to be used as emergency ringworm cat accommodation or I can sit or sleep in there to save on heating bills this winter.

The amount of pointless shit in the shed.

Sometimes some stuff ends up being handy though.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d (3 replies)

Giant disco ball in the entry area.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d (2 replies)

Yep. This would confuse. Also the sex room extension.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 135d (1 reply)

I have been thinking way too much about this sex room thing lately and it just seems inherently creepy to me.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 135d

You gotta watch the show. Some of the rooms were done nice if you don't look at what's hanging on the walls.

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d (1 reply)

Well I also don't have a toaster (I use a cast iron griddle instead)

I love a good steak once in a while.

Stir fry of pork fillet & bok choy with mashed potato. Various tasty sauces according to whim.

I love a good whim

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 135d

Haven't yet decided, but I'm considering nipping down Lydiard St for a kebab

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 135d

I feel like I should get a prize for cleaning the house with a migraine.

Throwback to early days

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 136d (6 replies)

Good morning migraine. And somehow I need to do a fresh install of Windows today because Windows 11 can suck a dumpster of disease ridden dicks.

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 135d (3 replies)

I grabbed the one off AN (of all places) and have to say that version is fine for me. Been going for 7 months now w/o a problemo. Only use it for DAW / photo stuff though.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d (2 replies)

Did you a fresh install or an in place upgrade?

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d (1 reply)

Yea fresh.

Takes forever re-installing all the vsts though lol.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d

See that was my mistake. I was being lazy lol

So now I've got an extracted list of vsts that I'm collecting the installers for :(

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d (1 reply)

tea and aspirin and sunnies and a gentle hug. hope you feel better soon

I wish to register a complaint. These hot twiggy sticks are not.

TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 135d (1 reply)

One minute in the microwave should fix them. I saw this on tv.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 135d

What a prehistoric solution

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 135d (1 reply)

Strongly agree. Dip them in one of your hot sauces.

I got the tent and set it up inside just in case. The little one has forgiven me for last night and came back this morning for food and gloved pats. Was meowing to come in. Havenโ€™t let him in yet but Iโ€™m trying to get ready in case it has to happen.

Iโ€™ve got a big birthday coming up but am sad Melbcat isnโ€™t here to share it. Iโ€™m probably just going to do normal stuff (or as normal as things get around here).

he knows you're a sweetheart and it was one little thing that you were probably more worried about than he was

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d

Yeah I think he knows I wouldnโ€™t hurt him.

Years ago he had his little buns parked on my hot water heater (probably just a visitor at the time) and I was very gently poking him with a pipe to shoo him away (because of my cat)โ€ฆ he wasnโ€™t scared in the slightest and just smooched the pipe like I was patting him.

Edit: He came back and got dosed. Heโ€™s run off in high dudgeon

Iโ€™m thinking of slinging some winter warmer poverty meals out there but donโ€™t know whether to put it in Aussie Frugal or Food Australia
