Assembly was required. Fortunately there was an expert instructor and all tools required.
It started out as a chunk of firewood, then we used an axe and various carving tools to turn it into a spoon. The wood is from a nectarine tree. Once it has dried out fully in a few weeks time I can sand and oil it to finish it off.
It was rather hard work, and I am definitely cancelling tomorrows planned weightlifting session, as I am unlikely to be able to grip anything, let alone lift it.
I also got a bonus couple of garbage bags full of woodchips to put on the garden.
They were very big on safety procedures and they also had cut resistant gloves. I did not cut myself or come anywhere close to doing so. I did however cut myself last night on a piece of dried chicken marinade baked onto a baking rack, so I think it's fair to say that washing the dishes is an inherently more dangerous endeavour than spoon carving.
What a weird layout the joint is, it's a whole lot of renovations cobbled together. It's a rabbit warren in a trenchcoat ๐. Maybe also all the weird noises and stuff in the main part of the house. But mainly the quantity of art and craft supplies crammed into my part of the house, a fairly small space. I've got enough stuff here to power a small primary school ๐
I grabbed the one off AN (of all places) and have to say that version is fine for me. Been going for 7 months now w/o a problemo. Only use it for DAW / photo stuff though.
Just about to head out to the bakery on the corner for a banh mi and coffee. The word on the street is that they've just done a batch of coconut slice. Does anyone else want some?
I got the tent and set it up inside just in case. The little one has forgiven me for last night and came back this morning for food and gloved pats. Was meowing to come in. Havenโt let him in yet but Iโm trying to get ready in case it has to happen.
Iโve got a big birthday coming up but am sad Melbcat isnโt here to share it. Iโm probably just going to do normal stuff (or as normal as things get around here).
Years ago he had his little buns parked on my hot water heater (probably just a visitor at the time) and I was very gently poking him with a pipe to shoo him away (because of my cat)โฆ he wasnโt scared in the slightest and just smooched the pipe like I was patting him.
Is anyone here, or does anyone know, a builder in the Preston/Thornbury kinda area who can do commercial fitouts?
Nothing high spec, just enough to satisfy council permits and get me started pouring beers. ๐

Lost Trades Fair? Nectarine sounds beautiful.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 135d
It's the 'Rare Arts and Lost Trades' centre at Ballarat. It's next to Sovereign Hill, in what used to be the gold museum.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 135d
Did you do that? Nice job.
I was wanting to learn how to whittle but not sure I can be trusted with a proper sharp knife

Decided I'm actually not going out today. The weather is just terrible and I want to sit outside lol
Will probably go on Wednesday arvo, as the weather looks better
Time to hurry up and chill

YL is dog sitting (staying at the house). I got this text.
Question: If someone was staying at your house on their own for 2 weeks what might they find strange?
I think someone would be curious about the amount of speakers and disco lights here.

Dinosaurs are not strange. Extinct, yes. Strange, no. At least for anyone that has ever had children in the house plastic dinos are normal.

Bed in a non-bedroom room because of upcoming works.
The random tent inside. Either to be used as emergency ringworm cat accommodation or I can sit or sleep in there to save on heating bills this winter.

I have been thinking way too much about this sex room thing lately and it just seems inherently creepy to me.

You gotta watch the show. Some of the rooms were done nice if you don't look at what's hanging on the walls.

Good morning migraine. And somehow I need to do a fresh install of Windows today because Windows 11 can suck a dumpster of disease ridden dicks.

Did you a fresh install or an in place upgrade?
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d
Yea fresh.
Takes forever re-installing all the vsts though lol.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 135d
See that was my mistake. I was being lazy lol
So now I've got an extracted list of vsts that I'm collecting the installers for :(
