What a dickhead. May justice be applied where necessary.

Perhaps one of the most important takeaways here is that at no point did the democratic party promote unyielding defense or support for Swalwell. Flawed as they may be, they don’t have the level of “party over people” that republicans demonstrate when something similar happens. Remind your conservative acquaintances of that.

eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 21 pts · 125d (6 replies)

Apparently this was a known thing around Washington and they just cut him loose when they needed to.

Both parties cover this shit up.

Hayduke@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 124d (2 replies)

Interesting, if true. Not totally doubting you, but at least they don’t reward that behavior when the evidence is laid bare. Granted it shouldn’t take public exposure to take action, but this is where we are at so far.

Read the Politico article

https://www.politico.com/news/2026/04/13/influencers-allegations-eric-swalwell-00869517

Plenty of people knew, nobody wanted to take the punishment for revealing it.

Horsey@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 124d

Thing is, you need proof for an accusation. Unless they could prove it, there’s nothing much they could do.

Boiglenoight@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 124d

Is this just heresay or is there actual evidence? If he’s guilty he should pay.

ayyy@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 125d (1 reply)

Ah yes, handled exactly the same way as trump. No differences to be seen whatsoever.

eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 125d

Did I say that? No. I said both parties cover up sexual assault. The Democrats buried Epstein until it would no longer inconvenience the Clintons, don't fool yourself.

GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world · -7 pts · 125d (22 replies)

Yeah but this eating our own while Republicans stay in office only benefits R’s.

I know Gonzales “retired”, but that is by and large the exception AND only happened after Dems experienced an equal loss of one, leaving the House math unchanged. We need to stop taking the high ground while the rules are unequally applied.

Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 15 pts · 125d

Swalwell leaving doesn't change the majority the Republicans already hold in the house, and he's in a very safe seat in California so whoever replaced him will be a democract too. This guy is like Cuomo, dead weight and we should cut him lose to show some integrity, not latch on to any of these corporate democrats because they've got a d next to there name.

the_crotch@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 124d (3 replies)

He raped someone. Are you saying we should let him continue on as if nothing happened in order to own the Republicans?

GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world · -8 pts · 124d (2 replies)

I’m saying that in this moment we should play by the same rules Republicans do. Stop beating ourselves with self imposed rules that, last time I checked, are doing jack shit to help the nation.

Once we’ve fixed THAT problem we can return to the moral high ground.

Unless of course you enjoy living under this fascist regime.

Get rid of the rapist in the White House and work our way down.

the_crotch@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 124d

I disagree. Fewer rapists is an improvement. Getting rid of rapists isn't the moral high ground, it's a necessary moral imperative. Id rather have one party that acts like Republicans than two.

partial_accumen@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 124d

Unless of course you enjoy living under this fascist regime.

If we abandon the rules because its convenient for us, even if we win, we'd be living under a fascist regime. The only difference would be it would be one of our own making instead of someone else's.

Floodedwomb@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 125d (13 replies)

There are dozens of better candidates to replace every rapist in Washington.

GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world · -4 pts · 124d (12 replies)

Agreed; my issue is with the unequally applied rules. They should ALL be gone, but until that’s the case let’s stop shooting ourselves in the foot while Republicans laugh their way to corrupt majorities.

NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 124d (11 replies)

As if the Republicans are even playing by the rules at this point...Are you seriously defending a guy who violently raped someone?

At no point is it acceptable to let them off the hook, politics or no politics.

You'd be saying something completely different if you'd ever experienced something like this.

GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 124d (10 replies)

Okay, did I miss something? Did more evidence come out today? From what I’d heard they were simply allegations at this point. And as a country we’ve show men how we treat those cough Epstein cough.

So again I ask, why the disparate treatment? The moral high ground means Jack shit if they take over for good.

NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 124d (9 replies)

Right...he's resigning out of embarrassment. It's only the moral high ground if you think politics is a team sport.

GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 124d

So let’s talk Al Franken…how soon we forget.

njm1314@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 124d (2 replies)

My own ain't rapists. Maybe your is. Not mine.

GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world · -2 pts · 124d (1 reply)

Good. Enjoy the moral high ground in the concentration camps.

The accuser, appearing on CNN in shadow, told Pamela Brown:

“I remember the next day, I can see flashes of that evening, of him on top of me, me pushing him off, him grabbing me. It was a lot more aggressive — it was aggressive.

“Did you say no?” Brown asked her.

I'm sorry, but why does this even need to be asked? When it comes to consent, anything less than an enthusiastic "yes" is auto-fucking-matically a "no".

Victim-blaming scumbag.

WindyRebel@lemmy.world · 45 pts · 125d

The answer is yes. Yes she did. Pushing someone off is saying no. No verbal exchange needed.

partial_accumen@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 124d

“Did you say no?” Brown asked her.

Brown's logic:

"Your honor, my client, before wrestling Mr Smith to the ground, putting a gun to his face, and then pulling the trigger, heard no verbal statement from Mr Smith saying 'Do not kill me'. In light of this you must drop these murder charges and let my client go free." /s

Democrats are stupid. They could have just pretended it didn't happen and then have the DOJ cover it up and blame brown people and Joe Biden for their problems.
