German actually has the word "Ambulanz", but it means "walk-in clinic".

Well yeah, countries that speak Romance languages use the Latin-derived word. English is the odd one out thanks to the French influence.

Don't worry, Krankenwagen is just the colloquial term, the technical terms are even better.
