People who sleep through the night are such freaks.
What do you mean you don't wake up to go pee at 3 am, and then just lay in bed for awhile doing night math and thinking night thoughts?!

I usually fall asleep in about 5 minutes and if I wake up once it's a bad night's sleep.

But how do you pee! And let's not forget the all important 3am glug glug hydrate from the glass of water next to the bed aaahhhhhhh

If this is your regular night time routine, see a doctor and get tested for diabetes. Constant thirst and needing to pee often are some of the indicators.

And for men in particular, getting up a lot to pee at night can indicate prostate issues also.

Diabeetus. Or the sleep apnea. Definitely something to talk to your doc about though

What is night math? lol
lath@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 117d
Depends what's important at that moment. For some it's about bills, pay, debt etc. For others it's about the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.

if you think about it, boats can't go above a certain speed (hull speed) and airplanes can't go below a certain speed (or they would stall). Really makes you think
Junkers_Klunker@feddit.dk · 2 pts · 117d
They absolutely can go above hull speed, they just need exponentially more power to do it as they’re basically going up the wake all the time. Even says so in the first paragraph in your link.

Makes me think I should drive

African or European swallow?

lath’s answer is better and funnier, but for me, night math is doing basic math until I bore myself back to sleep. Sort of, kind of keeps the anxious thoughts at bay!

It's figuring out how much time you have left to sleep

Same here.
Maybe once a year I get a night of sleep like this: go to bed => fall asleep without much tossing and turning => wake up at least 8h later, feeling refreshed.
It's like christmas. The idea that some people do that every night feels freakish.

I watched a cool documentary about how artificial light changed how we sleep. For most of human history people slept in 2 blocks. First and second sleep. In between, they would do night tasks or, like this person, spend the time thinking.

I'm just perpetually exhausted and using sleep meds. No time for nighttime toughts. Need to sleep.

Can't wake up to go pee at 3 am if I'm not going to bed until 3 am
Noodle07@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 117d
I did that, then I got diagnosed with ADHD and take meds. Now I fall asleep very quickly and sleeps all night 👌

The trick is to look at your ohone until real late and go pee one last time. Then get back on your phone until you pas out, then wake up feeling like shit the next day because you started sleep too late

You may just be diabetic, do a checkup for you own sake.
Bluewing@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 116d
A sleep doctor wired me up one night and then prescribed a c-pap and gabapentin for sleep. And a urologist has me taking Flowmax and self cathing every night before bed. It also helps that I live in the middle of a forest with no streetlights or neighbors and sleep in a near blackout room. I can now mostly get 4 to 6 hours of sleep regularly. Still, the cats romping around the house at night can wake me up at 3am. The dogs at least sleep all night.
But damn, I never missed a pager going off.
prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 116d
Is this as horrifying as it sounds?
Bluewing@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 116d
You get really, really good at it. And intermittent self cathing is far better than wearing one with a bag strapped to your leg all the time. I've done that too. None of this does your sex life a lot of good though. But prostrate issues never do.
Pro Tip: Everyone should know their catheter size, I use a 16 french for example. I also recommend the hydrophilic lube with coude tip ones for easier insertion and placement.

I think I'd rather piss the bed
